Banding

Good morning
My shop is a frameless shop that does both commercial and residential work.
My bander/banding/glue is my nemesis.
I recently had a customer call me to her house 11 years after it was completed to show me 2 bands laying on the floor of her kitchen. It was 1.6mm wood banding.
I glued and taped them backed on and checked all of the other banding in the kitchen without finding any loose bands.
My shop is quite large with 15 people in the back shop and a dedicated edgebander who is also a good mechanic.
The bander used 11 years ago was a large olimpic with all the bells and whistles.
I know that this is probably a common problem for all frameless shops and my question is. Do you think this is a glue issue, a banding issue or a machine issue. There is plenty of glue on the cabinet side so I wnoder if glue can dry out or why it held for 10 1/2 years.
We use a jowatt glue.
Any help from anyone experiencing this would be appreciated.
Thanks
Tom

We haven't had any problems with the multi-layer veneer banding 1.6+-, that we know of. We used to have problems with solid lumber bands until we started priming them, no issues since. Henkel/Dorus KS 217 adhesive Dorus primer.

I have also had this issue. I've had banding fall off an entire job. It's very embarrassing not to mention you will loose a customer, a GC, and an architect. I'm curious to hear people's solutions.

Now you've got me wondering if we should be priming the 1.6mm also?? That would be a PIA. We always prime HPL & solid lumber bands. Before we started priming those we would have an occasional failure. It always seemed random, making it hard to diagnose. We've always run a heavy bander and I don't think it has anything to do with the machine though it could be poor setup by the operator. If there is no or little adhesive on the banding it is not "wetting" the surface. Do a test run and let the adhesive get totally cool. Pry it off. Is there adhesive on both parts? Try the primer. On HPL we just spray up entire sheets and then cut it into banding. (I really don't like to use HPL but sometimes can't talk a designer out of it.) ABS/PVC comes already primed.
