I HAVE 3 EDGEBANDERS 2 HOLZHER CONTRIGA 1368, AND ONE BIESSE ROXYL 5.5. WE ARE USING DORUS 217 GLUE. I AM HAVING ISSUES WITH THE GLUE WORKING ON "HPL" I GET GREAT GLUE ON THE PART BUT THE LAM DOES NOT STICK TO THE GLUE. WHEN THE LAM PULLS OFF THERE IS NO GLUE ON THE LAMINATE. I WAS TOLD THAT I NEED A PRIMER ON THE LAM. IS THERE ANY GLUE OUT THERE THAT WOULD WORK WITH BOTH "HPL" AND "PVC" WITHOUT A PRIMER FOR THE "HPL"
the film on the back of the laminate is your issue. As far as i know you will always need to prime to treat this and don't take any shortcuts (brush not spray).
Push as hard as possible for non laminate banding. Color matches should be available and you dont have to worry about priming.
We pre heat our laminate edges with a heated table at the bander. Try it as it will stick then. Be very careful with what kind/type of primer you use.We went that direction once and had lam. edges falling off in the floor after a few days or weeks.Do a search here on laminate glue /primer compatabilty.
We prime all HPL with Dorus EB primer and have no issues. We apply primer with spray gun before we cut sheets into strips.
Just like Rich, Dorus primer, spray full sheets. Have had no problems since we went this route many years ago. But best solution is to talk designers out of HPL edges. It also works well on solid wood edges.
I dont mean to steal the thread but i did not find any place to post it else In anticipation of the griggio mobile edge bander hopefully arriving in the next week or so i have been looking into getting some glue supplies. Ostermann seem to do a good range and available in smaller quantities if required 2.5kilos or 25kg sacks. Any other suppliers that are better or cheaper? Whats the best colours to get? I was thinking of getting some white, transparent and a dark wood type colour or can you just get away with the transparent? is it a pain to change the colour over?
Alden, If you are getting a glue pot bander, it is a pain to change colors, unless you have a quick change pot and multiple pots to use.
