Veneering over solid surface5/21
Asking if anyone has tested or tried veneering over solid surface:
Designer has in mind a display with veneer face- CNC'd cut reliefs into surface exposing a colored background of the designs cut into panel.
Thinking solid surface could be option rather than veneering over MDF and painting the relief cuts.
Looking to see if anyone has done this?
As long as you can find an adhesive that is compatible with both the veneer and the solid surface, why not? If you get a paper backed veneer and used contact cement it'll probably work. But a hard adhesive such as something you could press and cure would likely be a better solution.
Better look at coefficient of expansion on the solid surface/ Might just move too much and split the veneer or open the seams. Man I cringe when someone suggests paper backed veneer and contact cement. Two things that do not equate to quality veneer products.
I know www.saglumanist.com does some veneer work, but not sure if suitable for you, guess you can ask them from enquiry. Thanks!
