classic column design guidelines2/24
I have a HAPFO copy lathe on the truck, heading my way. I will be doing some classic style columns for art display as it's first projects. I want to get the entasis in the right place and in the correct proportion. Also proper curves for the entire length. Can anyone point me to a design guide for these features? Thanks.
One of the best is Chippendales Directory. You can get it free here :https://ia902702.us.archive.org/9/items/gentlemancabine00Chip/gentlemancabine00Ch
The book is available on amazon as well.
Robert Chitham also wrote a book explaining it in more modern terms also on Amazon.
I prefer the older/Ancient text to Chitham's. But they are all good.
It is a fascinating subject-ENJOY!
Best of luck
