Small commercial job for engineering firm that has heavy books. We our going to use 1" melamine for shelves and longest shelf 34.5". Cnc parts with 5mm hole system plan on running an additional row on back for added support. 5mm normal shelf clip suffice for weight?
Yes, you are asking if the weight would shear off the pins, that is not going to happen.
I have wondered just how much it would take to tear out the wood.
Use the metal sleeves in the holes and put more than 2 pins per side if you are worried about the load.
The pins themselves would probably hold 500lbs each.
It's not gonna shear out. Cmon! I mean, maybe if you jump on the shelf. Sagging is the issue I see.... But if its frameless behind doors and it does sag, just flip the shelf in 6 months....it's a melamine job after all
The most important issue here is to make sure the shelves fit nice and snug. If there is side to side slop then the holes can get elongated and fail.
