Bosch or festool jigsaw -- 1 --
10/29

Is it worth the extra 100.00 from bosch's top-of-the-line corded? If i read correctly, festools has more RPM, but bosch's depth of cut is deeper. Any other "good points" i should be aware of good, bad or otherwise?
The dust collection is nice on the festool, but i RARELY use it where i would need to be conserned.

I've found the Festool to be awkward to operate, the guys don't like the Festool. We use the Bosch more. When you're trying to make some acurate cut or let's say cut a sink hole in a laminate top the hose and the vacuum take too much time to deal with. I have the Festool vacuums also. The Festool has a light which my Bosch doesn't have. The light is nice at times.

I have both. Not a huge difference, to be honest. I don't understand the depth of cut comment since both use the same type of blades.
10/30 #4: Bosch or festool jigsaw ...

Pat,
I'm referring to the stroke length (i think it's called that. Meaning... If the overall depth of cut is say 4-1/2" and the blade is 3-1/2, the stroke would be 1".
I'm not too concerned about it being able to use the same blades, as I am how thick of a board could it tenitively cut through.
I have an old bosch that the top tightening part broke off and the plate is missing. In addition to this, i think the motor is on its way out. A few years, maybe 4-5, I bought another Bosch that has the D handle...it seeemed to work just fine until it recently grew legs.
Now, I'm looking to replace it. Since I already have the Kapex and the 6" ROS and obviously the vac, i thought it might be worth the money.
I faintly remember seeing someone use the festool jigsaw and I had an opportunity to try it and from what I remember, it cut a lot more smoothly than the Bosch. Sound right?
Regarding the comment about the festool having a light, i thi k the new Bosch also has a light
Then, the next thing to consider is whether or not to get either one corded or cordless
I'm not on installs even remotely close to full-time anymore, so going cordless would be more of a convenience than anything. I'm just struggling with whether a cordless is worth the extra money. I'm also of the opinion that many of our corded tool may one day be all replaced with only cordless.

To be fair, I don't have the latest version of either saw. The light sounds like a good thing to have, and Festool's dust extraction tends to be pretty good. I also have an older cordless Bosch jigsaw. Performance is good, but battery life has always been so-so.
10/30 #7: Bosch or festool jigsaw ...

NO....Festool is way over rated!
10/31 #8: Bosch or festool jigsaw ...

Festool is the sh!t...some of their tools are overrated but generally they are a way better tool....thought through and work as a system. For a jig saw though, I wouldn't spend the extra money because we don't use them a lot....maybe for installs and cutting for outlets and plumbing... we don't need anything fancy there. If you need an accurate jigsaw, festool is better.....
10/31 #9: Bosch or festool jigsaw ...

we have a lot of different manufacturers. I have the top of the line Bosch in my personal truck and the shop guys prefer the latest heavy duty Dewalts. The countershop guys use the Bosch. I think the foreman ran the crap over with the forklift so it never gets in his truck
11/1 #10: Bosch or festool jigsaw ...

About 5 years ago my lumber dealer became a festool dealer. A year later he went out of business and sold me his complete inventory of Festool demo units....sanders, track saw, everything. I did not get the vacuume unit as someone else got there before me on sale day. I tried each briefly, and except for one RO Sander I sold it all on Craig's list for 30% off list. I felt they were on a par with the Bosch tools I have and at an equal price point I could go with either; but for regular Festool pricing they can keep them. Save your money.

bosch
11/2 #12: Bosch or festool jigsaw ...

We've got two of the Bosch barrel grip models, durable, work well. Much prefer the barrel grip instead of the handle over design.
11/2 #13: Bosch or festool jigsaw ...

Seems like the dibs are on the bosch
My last question is.., i know festool has a lot thicker blade than bosch blades, so will any of the boach blades, more specifically the thicker blades, work in the bosch? I really liked that it would do tight turns and the blade wouldnt deflect

FORUM GUIDELINES: Please review the guidelines below before posting at WOODWEB's Interactive Message Boards (return to top)
WOODWEB is a professional industrial woodworking site. Hobbyist and homeowner woodworking questions are inappropriate.
Messages should be kept reasonably short and on topic, relating to the focus of the forum. Responses should relate to the original question.
A valid email return address must be included with each message.
Advertising is inappropriate. The only exceptions are the Classified Ads Exchange, Machinery Exchange, Lumber Exchange, and Job Opportunities and Services Exchange. When posting listings in these areas, review the posting instructions carefully.
Subject lines may be edited for length and clarity.
"Cross posting" is not permitted. Choose the best forum for your question, and post your question at one forum only.
Messages requesting private responses will be removed - Forums are designed to provide information and assistance for all of our visitors. Private response requests are appropriate at WOODWEB's Exchanges and Job Opportunities and Services.
Messages that accuse businesses or individuals of alleged negative actions or behavior are inappropriate since WOODWEB is unable to verify or substantiate the claims.
Posts with the intent of soliciting answers to surveys are not appropriate. Contact WOODWEB for more information on initiating a survey.
Excessive forum participation by an individual upsets the balance of a healthy forum atmosphere. Individuals who excessively post responses containing marginal content will be considered repeat forum abusers.
Responses that initiate or support inappropriate and off-topic discussion of general politics detract from the professional woodworking focus of WOODWEB, and will be removed.

WOODWEB's forums are a highly regarded resource for professional woodworkers. Messages and responses that are crafted in a professional and civil manner strengthen this resource. Messages that do not reflect a professional tone reduce the value of our forums.
Messages are inappropriate when their content: is deemed libelous in nature or is based on rumor, fails to meet basic standards of decorum, contains blatant advertising or inappropriate emphasis on self promotion (return to top).
Libel: Posts which defame an individual or organization, or employ a tone which can be viewed as malicious in nature. Words, pictures, or cartoons which expose a person or organization to public hatred, shame, disgrace, or ridicule, or induce an ill opinion of a person or organization, are libelous.
Improper Decorum: Posts which are profane, inciting, disrespectful or uncivil in tone, or maliciously worded. This also includes the venting of unsubstantiated opinions. Such messages do little to illuminate a given topic, and often have the opposite effect. Constructive criticism is acceptable (return to top).
Advertising: The purpose of WOODWEB Forums is to provide answers, not an advertising venue. Companies participating in a Forum discussion should provide specific answers to posted questions. WOODWEB suggests that businesses include an appropriately crafted signature in order to identify their company. A well meaning post that seems to be on-topic but contains a product reference may do your business more harm than good in the Forum environment. Forum users may perceive your references to specific products as unsolicited advertising (spam) and consciously avoid your web site or services. A well-crafted signature is an appropriate way to advertise your services that will not offend potential customers. Signatures should be limited to 4-6 lines, and may contain information that identifies the type of business you're in, your URL and email address (return to top).
Repeated Forum Abuse:
Forum participants who repeatedly fail to follow WOODWEB's Forum Guidelines may encounter difficulty when attempting to post messages.
There are often situations when the original message asks for opinions: "What is the best widget for my type of shop?". To a certain extent, the person posting the message is responsible for including specific questions within the message. An open ended question (like the one above) invites responses that may read as sales pitches. WOODWEB suggests that companies responding to such a question provide detailed and substantive replies rather than responses that read as a one-sided product promotion. It has been WOODWEB's experience that substantive responses are held in higher regard by our readers (return to top).
The staff of WOODWEB assume no responsibility for the accuracy, content, or outcome of any posting transmitted at WOODWEB's Message Boards. Participants should undertake the use of machinery, materials and methods discussed at WOODWEB's Message Boards after considerate evaluation, and at their own risk.
