Fixed shelving w/ FF

Hello,
I was wondering how to deal with fixed shelving in a face frame cabinet. I am fairly new to this type of construction and usually I dado my sides to accept the shelf and just attach the nosing piece (in line with the stiles) after I attach the assembled frame. I am concerned the strength isn't there on long runs.. and was thinking about the accuracy of building a dado style middle shelf with a completed face frame (covering the fixed shelving edge without attaching a piece later). I use PS for my face frames and biscuits for attaching the frame to the carcass.
Would you simply dry fit the frame to the side and mark where the dado will go? or do you dado first?

The best method is the non measurement method. Lay the FF on the side and make a tick mark with a pencil. I always go 1/32" under. I haven't tried to do a flush shelf in ages. Just to much to go wrong.

We use the method Leo described all the time when we mill on the table saw. When parts are CNC'd, we just make sure the location of the mid-rail is precise when we build the frame and we never have a problem.

Hi, thanks for replying. With reference to attaching the frame to the carcass, after you make your 'tick' mark and plow your dado. How would I attach the frame? Simply glue and clamp on that shelf rail or could I still use a biscuit joiner as I would for the rest of the alignment around the frame?

You can do anything you want for alignment. I do nothing other then go by eye.
