Brandt or SCM8/31
I was just at IWF last week looking for a new edgebander. When I left the show I was determined to purchase the Brandt 1110 FSS (premill with profile scrape and glue scrape). Since the show, SCM has been talking to me about the Olimpic K360 with the same specs but offer a few more luxuries such as the added buffer, anti glue spray, and a radius cutter on the end trim unit. Both about the same price, but looking for input. The bad thing is that neither company had these models at the show. I'm leaning towards the Brandt, but SCM is really tempting me.
Do yourself a favor. Force them to demonstrate the machine in front of you. Look at the edges closely. Accept no substitute for this.
definitely brandt. i have a brandt bander & stiles has the best support on planet earth.
if u need parts they have them , if u need tech support they have it in a matter of 30 mins. or less most of the time less.
stay away from scmi at least on sanders.
i have a 2 head scmi sander & tech support is horrible. when they were trying to sell it to me you couldn't ask for better responses.
after i bought the sander it took months to get a cylinder fixed even under warranty & you might wait a couple days or have to call back in for tech support.
i can only expect worse now that my warranty is gone.
I'm with Mike on this. In fact, we are selling our 17 year old (still running great) Brandt to make room for another brand new Brandt.
You cannot beat Stiles level of service, education, parts availability and support. The disparity I've witnessed between them and the competition is staggering. You get what you pay for.
I don't know much about Brandt but you have to ask yourself how one company is able to produce so much "more machine" and still sell it at the same price. Something has to give. Probably the investment made in customer support.
I have a couple of SCM machines and the best I can say about customer service is "bless their hearts". Sometimes you'll get a really talented tech on the phone but most of the time it's a real hassle.
i would go so far as to talk with your salesman from stiles. they used to have several days a year that they would invite you to the headquarters & demo you any machine that you were interested in buying.
I have a 20 year old Brandt that is still an amazing machine but we just happened to outgrow it. We bought the 1440 at the show, SCM offered a much better price for a much lesser machine. Can't go wrong with a brandt!!
I have owned both brands, I like the Brandt better for the fact that in my area the dealer and service is way better! If you have an Scm dealer that is good I would not hesitate to get an Scm. One other thing to consider is they feed from the opposite ends, I am not sure if this is important in the way your shop is set up?
