Moisture content of edgebanding affecting application?1/4
Looking for some insight from those with experience with holt melt edgebanders applying thin wood banding.
We installed a new brandt ambition 1110 bander this summer. Our shop is not climate controlled. Wood tapes applied well all summer and fall until a few weeks ago. Thin wood tape (mainly hickory - oak, maple, and birch seem okay) is riding up on the panel as it is applied. It seems to start out okay then slowly warp up as it contacts the panel. At first we thought it was an adjustment, but ruled that out as far as we know (pvc runs fine).
Any insight is greatly appreciated.
We had the exact same issue with wood edgebanding. I tried a different brand and that seemed to solve the problem. The problem banding was from Edgemate.
Are you using roll or strip edgebands?
If strips, do you cut them on a double knife guillotine? It's not hard to get some "bend" in the strips if you are cutting on a single knife.
If you are running rolls, it is most likely an adjustment issue with your pressure rollers. It usually is from too much pressure which will tend to "lift" the band as it goes through.
Thanks guys, it does happen to be edgmate banding.
John, we are running rolls. I will try loosening the spring tension on the pressure wheels. We have three. The first intial wheel, then two that are at slight opposing angles.
Try the last pressure roll first (backing off slightly) then work your way forward. Go slow, it might only take a very small adjustment. I recommend you don't adjust all three at once.
Thanks. I'll give that a try.
