Good morning all, hey just a quick question to set my mind at ease. So I am a shop manager at a cabinet shop here in Sask Canada. Anyways I feel my duties keep increasing by the month and its becoming overwhelming. Now, any of you shop owners what does your shop managers duties all entail? If you dont mind and as far as wage goes what are you paying your top guys? Thanks in advance
Not going to be able to tell you much without knowing what your duties are and how big of shop force & amount of sales you are managing. Shop manager is about as general of a description as it comes and it going to vary completely in pay whether you are managing 3 guys, 30 or 300.
Portfolio looks pretty good, but how many years did it take you to accumulate that?
If I was the shop owner and you posted with your company name and full name we might be having a chat in the morning...but maybe that is what you want.
You bring up some valid points about the OP's vague request. I was following along nodding my head in agreement up until your last sentence. What kind of "talk" would you have with this guy? Why do you feel that he has done something wrong? Asking a question and looking for information isn't necessarily a bad thing.
However, my biggest issues is I would want my "top guys" to be smart enough to realize he is being completely vague. In fact the only thing he is being completely vague about is the exact information we would need in order to give him a reasoned response. The non important information, and the stuff that could not point at him being responsible for, he is being crystal clear on.
In other words, a man who cannot manage a woodweb post might find himself overwhelmed "managing" an actual business of 3, let alone 30, and I might come to believe he is in over his head and want to chat with him. I might want to sit him down and make sure his head is an organized place and that he is a man that does not pass the buck. Because without either of those traits he cannot organize my team or be a man I want to organize my team. Savy?
Wow. Seams a bit unprofessional. Not sure what I do if you were my employee.
