looking at the Holzher 1327 and the SCM k560 both are servo. has anyone had issues with the servo motors? Any issues with the computer and or software? Is using the PUR glue worth it? Is one bander better than the other?

we have the holzher 1329 and the scm k600 which both are a little over a year old.
we use the holzher with pur glue only as to apply laminate edgebanding since laminate can be troublesome to apply with eva glue without priming the laminate strips first .
we use the scm with eva glue to apply pvc edgebanding only.
Both machines have been great so far and we run them hard for 9 hours a day .
the scm works better for pvc banding and the holzher works better for laminate edges for us.
we've had no real issues with either machine .
What edges are you gonna apply or both?

we will be doing mostly pvc and wood strips. verry little laminte. some 3m. have you used your holzher for pvc? you say the scm does a better job with pvc, but how much better as i am now more inclined to go with the holzher as i have had discussions with techs and owners of the holzher who swear by it.

Concerning your thoughts on pur glue..since you be running very little laminate then I would stay with eva glue without a doubt. Pur glue and cleaner can get expensive and cost of labor and such for clean up ..
Yes we have and do run a little bit of pvc on the holzher and it does a great job.. What I meant was the way we run our shop.
Are you going with all servo motors on each station? Just make sure the tech goes over and gets you to totally and completly understand how to adjust each station with the on-screen menu.
If you go with a glue pot machine then bite the bullet and buy a extra glue pot.
I think you would be satisfied with either machine..

to bruce..do you have any servo motors on either bander? my concern is the accuracy and future reliability of the servo motors as i hear they are very costly to replace

jut 1 motor on our scmi which adjusts the pre-mill fence. everything else is manually adjusted . our holzher has quit a few as most stations are adjusted on screen.. we have had zero problems out of them. accuracy is great. where are u located?

We currently have a 6 year old Hozher 1336 Arcus and we run PUR on everything. We are 70/30 commerical to residential cabinetry and we found that the PUR made sense for us. We run 3mm and .018 PVC almost every day and have great success with it. We do try to buy 3mm FLEX banding as it has less memory than the rigid and gives the PUR time to cure. We have had several SCM banders and every once in a while we had issues with banding falling off and problems with the glue pots, so we decided to make the switch to Holzher entirely because of the PUR. Of course we have had our issues, but I haven't had 1 call in 6 years about a band falling off and thats a big deal when you are delivering product up to 6 hours away.
We just ordered a new 1556 Accura that will be here end of the year and they have made some nice changes.

Our shop bought a k560 2 1/2 years ago. To be honest, we have fought with the adjustments ever since. At install, the tech literally said "I know what the numbers need to be, so I can't help you with that, you'll just need to play with it and figure it out". And yes, that was what he told us almost word for word. Finally, talking to a different tech who admits he isn't very familiar with the all servo machines, he told us how to get the machine adjusted properly. We spent 1 1/2 days getting it adjusted after that, cutters, scrapers, we had it set quite well, but then a crash a week later... If anyone can help, we think the crash has perhaps caused the top scraper to not be in position now, but we can't find any reference where to physically mount the scraper within range of the base setting for .5mm banding. 1mm and 3mm seem to be working properly, so we are confused why the scraper is not even close to the board with .5mm banding. I know, this isn't really an answer to your original question, but I mean it to be an insight to the need to force the tech to do his job and explain these adjustments. Our primary problem was that the tooling base setting was not within the adjustment range for the user profile. Now finally we are closer, but still again a little off

FORUM GUIDELINES: Please review the guidelines below before posting at WOODWEB's Interactive Message Boards (return to top)

  • WOODWEB is a professional industrial woodworking site. Hobbyist and homeowner woodworking questions are inappropriate.
  • Messages should be kept reasonably short and on topic, relating to the focus of the forum. Responses should relate to the original question.
  • A valid email return address must be included with each message.
  • Advertising is inappropriate. The only exceptions are the Classified Ads Exchange, Machinery Exchange, Lumber Exchange, and Job Opportunities and Services Exchange. When posting listings in these areas, review the posting instructions carefully.
  • Subject lines may be edited for length and clarity.
  • "Cross posting" is not permitted. Choose the best forum for your question, and post your question at one forum only.
  • Messages requesting private responses will be removed - Forums are designed to provide information and assistance for all of our visitors. Private response requests are appropriate at WOODWEB's Exchanges and Job Opportunities and Services.
  • Messages that accuse businesses or individuals of alleged negative actions or behavior are inappropriate since WOODWEB is unable to verify or substantiate the claims.
  • Posts with the intent of soliciting answers to surveys are not appropriate. Contact WOODWEB for more information on initiating a survey.
  • Excessive forum participation by an individual upsets the balance of a healthy forum atmosphere. Individuals who excessively post responses containing marginal content will be considered repeat forum abusers.
  • Responses that initiate or support inappropriate and off-topic discussion of general politics detract from the professional woodworking focus of WOODWEB, and will be removed.

WOODWEB's forums are a highly regarded resource for professional woodworkers. Messages and responses that are crafted in a professional and civil manner strengthen this resource. Messages that do not reflect a professional tone reduce the value of our forums.

Messages are inappropriate when their content: is deemed libelous in nature or is based on rumor, fails to meet basic standards of decorum, contains blatant advertising or inappropriate emphasis on self promotion (return to top).

Libel:   Posts which defame an individual or organization, or employ a tone which can be viewed as malicious in nature. Words, pictures, or cartoons which expose a person or organization to public hatred, shame, disgrace, or ridicule, or induce an ill opinion of a person or organization, are libelous.

Improper Decorum:   Posts which are profane, inciting, disrespectful or uncivil in tone, or maliciously worded. This also includes the venting of unsubstantiated opinions. Such messages do little to illuminate a given topic, and often have the opposite effect. Constructive criticism is acceptable (return to top).

Advertising:   The purpose of WOODWEB Forums is to provide answers, not an advertising venue. Companies participating in a Forum discussion should provide specific answers to posted questions. WOODWEB suggests that businesses include an appropriately crafted signature in order to identify their company. A well meaning post that seems to be on-topic but contains a product reference may do your business more harm than good in the Forum environment. Forum users may perceive your references to specific products as unsolicited advertising (spam) and consciously avoid your web site or services. A well-crafted signature is an appropriate way to advertise your services that will not offend potential customers. Signatures should be limited to 4-6 lines, and may contain information that identifies the type of business you're in, your URL and email address (return to top).

Repeated Forum Abuse: Forum participants who repeatedly fail to follow WOODWEB's Forum Guidelines may encounter difficulty when attempting to post messages.

There are often situations when the original message asks for opinions: "What is the best widget for my type of shop?". To a certain extent, the person posting the message is responsible for including specific questions within the message. An open ended question (like the one above) invites responses that may read as sales pitches. WOODWEB suggests that companies responding to such a question provide detailed and substantive replies rather than responses that read as a one-sided product promotion. It has been WOODWEB's experience that substantive responses are held in higher regard by our readers (return to top).
