DELTA DC-580 Planer Stops working2/6

I have a Delta DC-580 (20") with a Byrd helical head.
We plane hard maple (4/4) taking .080 per pass.
It will run all day at the 20fpm speed -- when I up it to the 2nd speed - 30 fpm -- the planer will stop after 30 minutes.
The motor doesn't get hot... so ... what is causing it to stop?
I am not familiar with that machine.
It should have a motor starter. It is an electro mechanical contractor. A switch. When you push the start button the cotactor is drawn closed starting the motor and supplying energy to run. Part of its function is to make sure you donít draw too much amperage.
In the starter there is either heaters for each leg of power or a little dial set to a number.
I assume you are drawing to much amperage causing the starter to trip. This can be caused by you attempting to cut to much or a poor connection.
I would check all the connections from the plug or however itís hooked to power to where in comes into and out of the starter and where it connects to the motor.
Look for loose connections, burnt connections and or wires, anything that seems questionable.
After that I would look at the motor plate for itís amperage at your voltage and make sure the heaters in the starter or dial will allow enough amperage.
If you have a amp meter check each leg of power while running at the higher feed rate to see if one or more is high.
If none of this makes sense call an electrician.
probably pulling to many amps might want to shorten the extension cord or wire gauge
Adjustable "heaters" get old and can trip early. It's possible during the years of operation the adjustment has vibrated to a lower amperage.
Using a clamp amp meter to determine what the current draw is. If it's within what the plate specs say then something is up with the starter.
What's the motor size? Pretty sure the Byrd head takes more hp than stock knives.

It's about time I bought an amp meter... so I'll check that - I'll also look at the start/heaters to see how it handles overload.
It's a 5hp... I read somewhere that the byrd could require a little more hp ...
