Just purchased an Omec dovetailer. Looking for bit and supplier recommendations. Machine came with a dovetail bit but looking for best straight bit to use. Anyone with experience care to give an opinion? Cheers. Matt
What model Omec did you purchase? Different models take different bits.
If it's CNC controlled you'd want a sprial bit which Vortex Tool carries and I would recommend.
If it's one of the bits that's adjust by an eccentric then maybe Vortex might carry that one as well.
What kind of material? Solid or ply?
I use a Cantek dovetailer, I've had the best luck with the solid carbide two flute bits from akhurst. We do solid birch.
I don't know this for certain, but I think the omec machines use the same style bit.
Vortex sells a couple of variations that I would like to try if they are. I think the chip breaker type could do well.
It is the 750 CN, cnc controlled model. We are machining hardwoods. I'll look at Vortex, we buy a number of other items from them. Thx.
You need the Vortex bits for sure. The helical spiral carbide bits are the best.
