Used Edgebander buyer's guide?10/29
I am looking at purchase a used edgebander, and am looking for a resource akin to a buyers guide, review or repair guide to the many used edgebanders out there...
yeah. talk to the machine owner...
what kind of machine are you looking at? i'm sure others could help. i've got a cehisa ep-7 for sale and have also owned an ep-2. i know those machines pretty well.
I am also looking for a used bander. In the 1980s I had a Holzher 1408, which was probably overkill since I seldom used anything but PVC or V32 HPL. I'm currently considering reentering the industry and so a used machine makes sense. My needs are up to 3 mm PVC, end and edge trim, scraper, and polishing stations. I lean toward Holzher since my experiences with other brands were unpleasant. Any suggestions based upon experience would be appreciated.
I have a very nice Brandt for sale. Message me if you want more info. 3mm machine fully loaded
My suggestion is that if you do a lot of edge banding, or work on a deadline do not buy a used edgebander unless you have a legit full-time mechanic onsite who is available to adjust it at any point during the production cycle.
With leasing as cheap as it is right now, I would highly suggest shopping around - its a competitive market and you can probably get a great deal if you shop it around.
Why? An edgebander has no less that 1000 adjustments that all work in tandem together. When one breaks or gets out of alignment you have to diagnose it holistically to get it back running cuz it is often hard to tell which one is out of whack - if you do not have a pre-mill on the bander than this means you have to run your parts back through the table saw to shave off the f'd up banding - take it from me, its a real pain in the ass especially if you have multiple people using it or people who don't have extensive experience on it.
