We've been cutting for the couple local shops that dont have CNC for a while. Reaching out for us was no different than anything, getting out and beating the pavement, talking, dropping off some literature.
Pricing is a combination of sheet/hourly based on the job. Always heard XX per sheet numbers when starting but that only makes sense to me on a large volume average. Some jobs will have a lot of large parts, backs, not a ton of drilling, not very detailed, those run ripping fast. Then you get one that is all chopped up and has a bunch of odd stuff and if your on a per-sheet number you get clobbered. Doesnt matter if you have a drill block or not. Small chopped up boxes with tons of machining just take more time.
I simply price by the job now and some of that cost is factored heavily by what your supplied. If its hand sketches and you have to do all the input, have a few back and forths/sit downs with the shop owner to line out their specific details or build specific libraries for their construction style that all has to be factored in.
Cut a bit for one shop that nearly every job he does is different. Old world guy that never went for standardization, using up drops, odd pieces, "sometimes I do it this way, sometimes I do it that way".
Beyond that our only other factors are if we are supplying the material or they have it dropped to us. More expensive for them if they are supplying as we have to handle and track their material, break down drops, bundle their drops with the order, etc.. But again, some run prefin boxes, fussy guy wants B2 raw, blah blah.
It can be a nuisance when your busy and a blessing when your not.
