Paneled DW Detail
4/27/20
Looking for some help with this detail. Doors are overlay, with a chamfered finger pull along the top edge. Architect would like this detail on the DW (Miele), but I can't seem to make it work. All doors are 1", but I think I will have to use 3/4" per Miele specs. The only solution I have come up with is applying an upper rail between the cabinets, dropping the Dw down to its lowest height, then sliding it in under the rail. It will be a tight fit. Then the 3/4" applied panel can be used but you will be able to see the DW front at the base of the chamfer. Hope this makes some sense. Any help is appreciated.

Which Miele Dishwasher?
Their ADA compliant models have a lower minimum height and would adjust up to fit your original detail just fine.

Its a Miele Lumen, G 6875 SCVi SF AM.This model is not ADA compliant, but it does drop down to 33-3/4" which, because these are taller than normal cabinets, (35-1/4") will just fit under the 1-1/2" rail. But that leaves no adjustments for out of level floors, etc.

I'd be talking to the architect about whether he wants to raise the counter or use thinner counter material or use an ADA compliant machine.
If you can't adjust the machine you would need to be extremely lucky (we're talking lottery lucky) to get that squared up and flush with your other faces.

Agreed. Might be able to raise cabinet height, but we're already above standard. Maybe a 1/4" wouldn't be a big deal. Appreciate the input.

We have had to do this a few times, best solution we have come up with is to make a 1/4" backer made of the same material as the door. The backer is the full height the panel spec calls out. Then apply the door with your finger pull/chamfer to the backer. It's kind of hard to explain, so I attached a sketch

Thanks Tyler, I appreciate it. I was reluctant to do that because keeping the whole assembly under 3/4" didn't leave much finger room, but its certainly an option I can propose.

Is there a spec on the DW for weight? they all tend to spec 3/4, but as long as you follow weight requirements I haven't had an issue.

The machine will easily take 10 kilo of door panel. There are adjustments for the door spring that are set after door panel is on. the door should open and stay at any position (not falling or springing back).
Your main concern is going to go back to the height I think. You need room to plumb and level this thing.

Thanks for the help with this. I think we have the height and other details worked out, but we are forced to switch all surrounding doors to 3/4" thick to match the DW panel. Has anyone successfully done a 1" thick panel on a Miele? Tech support said don't deviate. I may be able to get the unit to my shop but not sure how soon.

We did it on two Miele G4998SCVI units in the same kitchen, with the detail I sent you- 1/4" backer w/ 3/4" panel.

Thanks Tyler. Might just proceed with 1" thick fronts.
