Case Clamp and Finished Ends
2/23/18
I need some advice. We are seriously considering adding a case clamp to speed up assembly. However, 95% of the time, we do not use applied finished ends. Our finished ends are part of the cabinet construction and I typically stain and finish before assembly. Is it reasonable to think I can still do this or will a case clamp damage my finished ends making it necessary for me to sand and finish after assembly? What have you found works here? Thanks for your help!

Whatfinish are you using. We use Campbell’s magnamax and as long as the finish has had at least 6-8 hours. Dry time we have not experienced it to be a problem.

Be sure that your clamps do not have any dried glue on them. Also, you can put a piece of scrap melamine or clean plywood between your clamp and the finished side. Al;so, put a scrap piece under the finished side as well. We do it all the time, rarely a problem.

We do it all the time, use a clean sheet of cardboard as a cushion. As Dan said, let the finish completely dry
