MDF Door manufacturing - HELP
6/25

We have a cnc to manufacture mdf vinyl wrapped doors. We have been supplied with a german software to generate the door styles and sizes. It's very complex and the support & training we had was next to nothing.
I want to know if there is a software where we can generate a door style, save it and just change the size of the orginial and nest the different sizes. Each file we make is never the same, each style and size has to be created which means not every door is the same as it can differ with the design. We need a simpler program, any advice and help would be appreciated.

i have, also Cabinetparts pro has some capacity for this when it comes to regular rectangle doors. this one has some curve but works well, it exports the dxf layers and can be nested in aspire/or cut2d/ vcarvepro, or any cam program that imports dxf layers

James... That door program is pretty cool...
If your only doing a few doors you could create A dynamic block in autocad and export a dxf.....
If I were thinking about thermofoil doors....I would give these guys a shot

You mentioned your German software was complex. Door Pro CNC is also complex in its capabilities but operates on a level that is understandable by cabinet and door manufacturers. It requires an average of 2 days to define your door styles and produce an accurate cutlist, 2 days to define your pricing, and 4 days to define your CNC. Inventory Control, if needed, may take up to a week by itself. Small shops, however, usually have no need for the Inventory Control module.
Door Pro CNC allows unlimited door styles in its library, multiple user-defined methods of pricing, numerous cutlist formats, door, drawer front, and drawer box reports, and automatic hardware assignments. Unlimited CNC machining is defined once per door style and is parametrically and automatically altered as per door style dimensions. Edgebanding and laminate are automatically accounted for and processed, and all doors are nested as per user’s instructions. Machining for pulls is for vertical or horizontal pulls, constant or variable length, and supports up to 8 holes per pull. All machining is automatically rotated 90 degrees based upon the software’s internal comparison of the part’s grain direction with the panel material’s grain direction. Specific hardware for doors as well as material can be pulled from Inventory with numerous inventory reports, including re-order alerts based upon re-order points per hardware or material. Customer credit limits, amount paid, and amount owed for all jobs is also reported. An Administrator-run Security system allows user-id and passwords to control what areas of the software are allowed per user. All CNC routers are supported with various languages such as G-Code, Woodwop, Biesseworks, Hops, WinCut, Xylog, Shopbot, and HPGL. Multiple CNC routers are supported so that, for example, one cutlist can be directed to the Omnitech while another cutlist can be directed to the Weeke. Thanks for the all the information, I want to try cabinet pro but they don't give you a trail period, I don't want to get stuck with another software that we're not happy with. Any suggestions?

I definitely appreciate your concerns, Namsey, for I've worked with numerous companies who have spent tens of thousands on other software that could not fulfill their needs; and they did not want to repeat that error again. So we have designed a number of Demonstration Videos, which can be downloaded from our website, that show exactly how the program operates. But these are just videos with no interactive capabilities. For an interactive experience, we also offer online personalized demos of Cabinet Pro where you can view our screen, and ask us to perform any operation you want. At that point, the program will either be able to perform or it won't be able to perform. We will either show you how your requested operation can be done immediately or tell you that it is beyond the scope of the software. Our online demos are NOT pre-designed to show capabilities according to OUR agenda. They are designed to show you what YOU want to see. So be prepared to ask questions that the Video Demos did not show to your satisfaction.
Of course, this still does not give you a free hands-on experience in using the software within your shop. Although we do offer a rental program so that you can spend a minimal amount to see if you like the software, we do not now, nor will in the future, offer a free trial version.
The reason is very simple: Technical Support is part of our overhead. Cabinet Pro CNC requires technical support, and we are committed to providing that support, for we will not leave a customer to fend for himself as is described in your original post. It is very common for us to get onto a customer's computer, sometimes spending 15 minutes or more in resolving a technical support problem he may be having. And providing technical support is expensive, Namsey, which becomes substantial when you consider we have customers or distributors in not only the U.S.A., but also in Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, South America, Israel, Europe, Africa, and Australia. If we gave the software free of charge to people who may or may not purchase, we would have to raise the price of the software in order to pay for this increased load that is not being re-imbursed. In other words, we would have to increase our prices so that those who purchase our software actually pay for those who use the software free of charge, even if for only a month. (Sounds like our current administration's basic principle of "re-distribution of wealth", where some are taxed more in order to pay for free entitlements to others, doesn't it?) When you look at the prices of some software and the prices seem to be astronomical, it is not entirely because of superior software, but also because of high overhead. Overhead will either kill a business or force that business's prices of its products to skyrocket. But the good news is that we maintain a low overhead, and can therefore keep our prices low, our technical support high, and continually enhance Cabinet Pro CNC for all.

Concerning your question for suggestions, I would suggest the following for either Cabinet Pro CNC or any other software you may be investigating:
1. Watch the demo videos and read the capabities of the software on our website, or on the website of whatever software you are investigating.
2 Write down questions you may have that the website or videos did not answer to your satisfaction.
3. Schedule and Online Demo and take control of the demonstration. Do not allow the presenter to give a well-practiced demonstration, unless you want to see a general overview of the software. Make sure you ask to see how the software would accomplish what you need it to accomplish.
4. The only difference between an online demo and your use of the software on your own computer is that the Presenter knows how to operate the software while you do not, and can therefore show how a particular task is accomplished quickly. So if the Presenter can answer your questions and DEMONSTRATE to you that your major requirements can be addressed and solved with the software, and the price is within your budget, then purchase it. If you are dissatisfied with what you have seen on the online demo, or the price to fulfill your needs is outside of your budget, then go elsewhere.
5. If you purchase the software then get focused and determined to learn it! In our case, Cabinet Pro CNC comes with a curriculum of Video Tutorials that guide you through the step-by-step process of setting up of the software for your shop. We also have telephone and remote support to answer questions. Other software products may have different methods of learning. Whichever software you purchase, follow that company's directions on how to learn the software, and then put the effort out to learn it. Programs like Cabinet Pro CNC, Cabinet Vision, Cabnetware, and Microvellum, are all excellent programs. So whichever one you purchase, put the effort out to learn it according to the directions of the company's representatives and you will be a happy camper. Do not put the effort out and you will not be a happy camper.
Hope this helps.

I've had a look at cabinetpro and it seems exactly what we need but we can't afford it at the moment, we are stuggling as a new start business. Unfortunately only a handful of companies provide a monthly licence, pay per usage, like Profactum, which is brilliant for a small business like ours, they send me a new key each month when we've paid and I'm happy with that as I can manage the payments, We are looking to get CabinetPro but we can't afford it at the moment.

FORUM GUIDELINES: Please review the guidelines below before posting at WOODWEB's Interactive Message Boards (return to top)
WOODWEB is a professional industrial woodworking site. Hobbyist and homeowner woodworking questions are inappropriate.
Messages should be kept reasonably short and on topic, relating to the focus of the forum. Responses should relate to the original question.
A valid email return address must be included with each message.
Advertising is inappropriate. The only exceptions are the Classified Ads Exchange, Machinery Exchange, Lumber Exchange, and Job Opportunities and Services Exchange. When posting listings in these areas, review the posting instructions carefully.
Subject lines may be edited for length and clarity.
"Cross posting" is not permitted. Choose the best forum for your question, and post your question at one forum only.
Messages requesting private responses will be removed - Forums are designed to provide information and assistance for all of our visitors. Private response requests are appropriate at WOODWEB's Exchanges and Job Opportunities and Services.
Messages that accuse businesses or individuals of alleged negative actions or behavior are inappropriate since WOODWEB is unable to verify or substantiate the claims.
Posts with the intent of soliciting answers to surveys are not appropriate. Contact WOODWEB for more information on initiating a survey.
Excessive forum participation by an individual upsets the balance of a healthy forum atmosphere. Individuals who excessively post responses containing marginal content will be considered repeat forum abusers.
Responses that initiate or support inappropriate and off-topic discussion of general politics detract from the professional woodworking focus of WOODWEB, and will be removed.
Participants are encouraged to use their real name when posting. Intentionally using another persons name is prohibited, and posts of this nature will be removed at WOODWEB's discretion.
Comments, questions, or criticisms regarding Forum policies should be directed to WOODWEB's Systems Administrator
(return to top).

You will be notified of responses to the message(s) you posted via email. Be sure to enter your email address correctly.
WOODWEB's forums are a highly regarded resource for professional woodworkers. Messages and responses that are crafted in a professional and civil manner strengthen this resource. Messages that do not reflect a professional tone reduce the value of our forums.
Messages are inappropriate when their content: is deemed libelous in nature or is based on rumor, fails to meet basic standards of decorum, contains blatant advertising or inappropriate emphasis on self promotion (return to top).
Libel: Posts which defame an individual or organization, or employ a tone which can be viewed as malicious in nature. Words, pictures, or cartoons which expose a person or organization to public hatred, shame, disgrace, or ridicule, or induce an ill opinion of a person or organization, are libelous.
Improper Decorum: Posts which are profane, inciting, disrespectful or uncivil in tone, or maliciously worded. This also includes the venting of unsubstantiated opinions. Such messages do little to illuminate a given topic, and often have the opposite effect. Constructive criticism is acceptable (return to top).
Advertising: The purpose of WOODWEB Forums is to provide answers, not an advertising venue. Companies participating in a Forum discussion should provide specific answers to posted questions. WOODWEB suggests that businesses include an appropriately crafted signature in order to identify their company. A well meaning post that seems to be on-topic but contains a product reference may do your business more harm than good in the Forum environment. Forum users may perceive your references to specific products as unsolicited advertising (spam) and consciously avoid your web site or services. A well-crafted signature is an appropriate way to advertise your services that will not offend potential customers. Signatures should be limited to 4-6 lines, and may contain information that identifies the type of business you're in, your URL and email address (return to top).
Repeated Forum Abuse:
Forum participants who repeatedly fail to follow WOODWEB's Forum Guidelines may encounter difficulty when attempting to post messages.
There are often situations when the original message asks for opinions: "What is the best widget for my type of shop?". To a certain extent, the person posting the message is responsible for including specific questions within the message. An open ended question (like the one above) invites responses that may read as sales pitches. WOODWEB suggests that companies responding to such a question provide detailed and substantive replies rather than responses that read as a one-sided product promotion. It has been WOODWEB's experience that substantive responses are held in higher regard by our readers (return to top).
The staff of WOODWEB assume no responsibility for the accuracy, content, or outcome of any posting transmitted at WOODWEB's Message Boards. Participants should undertake the use of machinery, materials and methods discussed at WOODWEB's Message Boards after considerate evaluation, and at their own risk. WOODWEB reserves the right to delete any messages it deems inappropriate. (return to top)
