Denise,

I haven't used Cabinet Pro in over 6 years and I'm sure it has changed some in that time. I found at the time it limited me in the way I constructed my cabinets. Because of this I tried another program and it has been fine for the way I build. I make only custom cabinets, so detail is important.

Frank and Eliana Jimenez are wonderful to work with and I do miss their personal, but professional work relationship.

As I said, I'm sure the program has been improved over the years, since Frank is always working with improvements.

Just remember that with support, you get what you pay for. It's the same with any company you deal with. If you ask, the Jimenez's will be open and honest about their support.

Denise,

I have been using Cabinet Pro for more than 10 years. It is a great program and has served us well. Frank and Eliana are indeed wonderful people. As far as options goes, the program is great for doing custom cabinets, one off pieces, doors and drawers, drawings, reports ect. I have the CNC version but am not currently running a CNC. We wanted the cnc version to become familiar with it before going the cnc route. (not sure if cnc is for us at this time)
The question you need to answer for yourself is, What options am I looking for and what are my needs? Get with Frank and explain your needs and he can direct you in the right direction. Cabinet Pro is an extremely honest company.
As to our experience using the program, we are very pleased. Cabinet Pro has served us very well. We have not found any instances where the program wasn't able to meet our building methods. I am sure there are some but we have not experienced them.
The tech support is great and updates are regular. I know there are other programs that have more bells and whistles but Cabinet Pro works well for us.

I have been using Cabinet Pro for a couple years. Overall I'am happy with the program. Although it seems to have a lot of bugs that I'm always fidgeting with. It allows a lot more design flexibility than some of the other programs that I tried, although it is very limited for items like turned legs, multiple mouldings, etc. I'am also disappointed with the dimensioning. It does well with dimensions on elevation drawings but the plan view dimensions are terrible. I often draw up a plan view in AutoCAD and then the print the rest in Cabinetpro. The cut list and estimate portions are great. I liked the cabinet Vision program considerably more but I couldn't afford the cost that program. If cutlist and bidding isn't important, then I would go with a different program. If they're important then Cabinetpro will be a good program but not the best in my opinion.

Jeff: The fixing of bugs always has priority over development with us at Cabinet Pro LLC. If you are experiencing any bugs with our current version, please give me a call. If it is truly a program glitch, it will be fixed asap. If it is a user problem, then I will guide you to rectify the problem.

Jeff: You are probably receiving "terrible" dimensioning of the floorplan because you are not pressing the FINISH button after dimensioning. This is required if using WINDOWS 10 and will clean up the dimensions so they don't look "terrible." :)

You may have to use the Magnifying glass buttons to either enlarge or decrease the size of the drawing. But feel free to contact me if you continue to have problems. Remember: technical support via email is FREE even if you are using an old version of Cabinet Pro.

Hey Frank,

I was just trying to give an honest review of the program based on my opinion and experience. I appreciate that you're constantly working to improve the program. One such glitch was every time I downloaded an update it seemed to change random user preferences so I would have to look things over extra well after a download. On my most recent download I see that it stated that there was a fix to this problem, that's great!! I'm well aware of how to "finish" a drawing. The problems I speak of are more along the lines of overlapping dimensions or the lack of needed dimensioning for other contractors/ countertop fabricators etc. I have called and discussed this with you in the past and although I have seen improvement I still feel the need to draw the plan views in AutoCad. As stated, overall I'm happy with the program. I find it to be so much faster then drawing everything in AutoCAD as I did prior. I also love having cutsheets and pricing already calculated as soon as the drawings are completed. So again, I was just trying to give an honest assessment, pointing out the pros and cons from my experience.

We had the same issues with the updates in Cabinet pro as Jeff above and each time the bulk of the work we completed had to be redone. In this way the program had to be abandoned as it was unreliable. As we paid for the updates, we were given responses that placed the "blame" on us and eventually got emails saying the requests we had were not in the format they wanted and we were unable to get additional help. We moved on to Cabinet vision and have had both the service we need and a very professional attitude. It is an expensive program but we are able to keep the shop running and no longer suffer from days of rebuilding. It paid for itself in 6 months based on our down time.

Frank,

Let the software speak for itself. Also, let the people who are using your software speak for it.

I understand you are the owner and developer, and want people to know the truth.

But at the end of the day.....all that matters is how are the woodworkers getting along with the software and how is it working in the woodshop.

CabinetPro does many things above average, cutlists, great optimizer, superb way of assigning machining definitions, good tech support, great training videos. It has many many features that make it extremely flexible.

I own cabinetpro cnc, and I have come to the point where I am content with the software. I use autocad and also Sketchup to do the same thing that Jeff uses it for. I make highly custom cabinets and I could never get by in cabinetpro without my 3d models from sketchup to make sure everythings gonna fit together.

I will post some pictures of my most recent projects.

all good

FORUM GUIDELINES: Please review the guidelines below before posting at WOODWEB's Interactive Message Boards (return to top)

  • WOODWEB is a professional industrial woodworking site. Hobbyist and homeowner woodworking questions are inappropriate.
  • Messages should be kept reasonably short and on topic, relating to the focus of the forum. Responses should relate to the original question.
  • A valid email return address must be included with each message.
  • Advertising is inappropriate. The only exceptions are the Classified Ads Exchange, Machinery Exchange, Lumber Exchange, and Job Opportunities and Services Exchange. When posting listings in these areas, review the posting instructions carefully.
  • Subject lines may be edited for length and clarity.
  • "Cross posting" is not permitted. Choose the best forum for your question, and post your question at one forum only.
  • Messages requesting private responses will be removed - Forums are designed to provide information and assistance for all of our visitors. Private response requests are appropriate at WOODWEB's Exchanges and Job Opportunities and Services.
  • Messages that accuse businesses or individuals of alleged negative actions or behavior are inappropriate since WOODWEB is unable to verify or substantiate the claims.
  • Posts with the intent of soliciting answers to surveys are not appropriate. Contact WOODWEB for more information on initiating a survey.
  • Excessive forum participation by an individual upsets the balance of a healthy forum atmosphere. Individuals who excessively post responses containing marginal content will be considered repeat forum abusers.
  • Responses that initiate or support inappropriate and off-topic discussion of general politics detract from the professional woodworking focus of WOODWEB, and will be removed.
  • Participants are encouraged to use their real name when posting. Intentionally using another persons name is prohibited, and posts of this nature will be removed at WOODWEB's discretion.

WOODWEB's forums are a highly regarded resource for professional woodworkers. Messages and responses that are crafted in a professional and civil manner strengthen this resource. Messages that do not reflect a professional tone reduce the value of our forums.

Messages are inappropriate when their content: is deemed libelous in nature or is based on rumor, fails to meet basic standards of decorum, contains blatant advertising or inappropriate emphasis on self promotion (return to top).

Libel:   Posts which defame an individual or organization, or employ a tone which can be viewed as malicious in nature. Words, pictures, or cartoons which expose a person or organization to public hatred, shame, disgrace, or ridicule, or induce an ill opinion of a person or organization, are libelous.

Improper Decorum:   Posts which are profane, inciting, disrespectful or uncivil in tone, or maliciously worded. This also includes the venting of unsubstantiated opinions. Such messages do little to illuminate a given topic, and often have the opposite effect. Constructive criticism is acceptable (return to top).

Advertising:   The purpose of WOODWEB Forums is to provide answers, not an advertising venue. Companies participating in a Forum discussion should provide specific answers to posted questions. WOODWEB suggests that businesses include an appropriately crafted signature in order to identify their company. A well meaning post that seems to be on-topic but contains a product reference may do your business more harm than good in the Forum environment. Forum users may perceive your references to specific products as unsolicited advertising (spam) and consciously avoid your web site or services. A well-crafted signature is an appropriate way to advertise your services that will not offend potential customers. Signatures should be limited to 4-6 lines, and may contain information that identifies the type of business you're in, your URL and email address (return to top).

Repeated Forum Abuse: Forum participants who repeatedly fail to follow WOODWEB's Forum Guidelines may encounter difficulty when attempting to post messages.

There are often situations when the original message asks for opinions: "What is the best widget for my type of shop?". To a certain extent, the person posting the message is responsible for including specific questions within the message. An open ended question (like the one above) invites responses that may read as sales pitches. WOODWEB suggests that companies responding to such a question provide detailed and substantive replies rather than responses that read as a one-sided product promotion. It has been WOODWEB's experience that substantive responses are held in higher regard by our readers (return to top).
