Import to Biesseworks from PYTHA

12/30/16

Hello.
I have just started using PYTHA software for Rover Machine. I am currently using Biesseworks Editor 3.4 post processor. however, when i import the drilling details (dxf) files, Biesseworks is not reading the tools and the depth of the drilling holes correctly. Could anyone please tell me where I am going wrong as in my country I have no support from either PYTHA or Biesse.

Thank You.
Garry.

I am not familiar with Pytha, but I do open dxf files from Autocad in Biesseworks all the time. The layer names are what tell Biesseworks what tool and depth to use.
Try this as a test:
Panel size on layer panel19 (19mm thk)
Drills on layer vertical14 (circle must be exact diameter of your drills in Biesseworks)
This is a very basic example. The layer name can control about everything and can get very long and confusing but can be found in the Biesseworks manual.
Hope this helps
John

Dear John,
Thank you for your suggestion. However it did not work for me.
PYTHA has configured the layers in its settings already. There is an specific 'export to Biesse' option for creating dxf files. Hence i don't think we need to assign layers in PYTHA.

Garry,
One of the issues is there are several ways to make the import work and without knowing how you're going at it it is hard to give an answer to the problem.
If you have 'preconfigured' layers, the problem would then most likely be with the layer name or the tool setup.
Which dxf import format are you using?
How is the layer calling the tool - by name or type?
Post an example of the drilling layer name and what it should be doing. Someone then could probably assist you quite easily.

If David's method isn't working for you I would compare the tool to the geometry for an exact match or insert the name of drilling tool you want in the layer (TCD$)

TCHW0B2TCD$DR3$D7600
Tool name is DR3
Depth is 76mm

Dear David and Dan,
Could you tell me how to implement the above mentioned solutions in PYTHA? I am not finding the options to insert the mentioned tools.
Thank You.

I'm sorry I don't have experience with Pytha, just BIesseWorks.
You might contact a Pytha user group or forum or technical for assistance.
If you are just drawing (2d) a dxf you would create the layer for machining and draw your holes on that layer.
If you are generating dxf files from your 3d objects I think there would be a post process involved that would likely need to be edited.

It sounds like you are in over your head.

If you get a 32bit version of Autocad installed, 2002 to 2016 (17 is working, just have not fixed a few bugs and built the installer) and make some sort of donation to Woodweb that they verify, I will send you copy of SmartLister to create some exports for Biesseworks. That's all I think I can do for you. No one I know actually uses Biesseworks for various reasons. If you have the software, you might as well use it until you learn more.

Website: cnc-tool.com

BSWorks when installed on PC first time defaults to the basic import module for the import of the dxf,CNI. Go to general settings, dxf import and confirm you select the BSWorks Import file format not the CNI and Save. As stated above, the "TCH" on the layer and the correct variable in $xx$, will import the geometry and the technical information associated to the geometry. The drop down menu in the general settings, dxf import lists all of the parameters that are available and two editable to match the layer name. Send me a PM and I can send you document detailing the structure of such layers.

FORUM GUIDELINES: Please review the guidelines below before posting at WOODWEB's Interactive Message Boards (return to top)

  • WOODWEB is a professional industrial woodworking site. Hobbyist and homeowner woodworking questions are inappropriate.
  • Messages should be kept reasonably short and on topic, relating to the focus of the forum. Responses should relate to the original question.
  • A valid email return address must be included with each message.
  • Advertising is inappropriate. The only exceptions are the Classified Ads Exchange, Machinery Exchange, Lumber Exchange, and Job Opportunities and Services Exchange. When posting listings in these areas, review the posting instructions carefully.
  • Subject lines may be edited for length and clarity.
  • "Cross posting" is not permitted. Choose the best forum for your question, and post your question at one forum only.
  • Messages requesting private responses will be removed - Forums are designed to provide information and assistance for all of our visitors. Private response requests are appropriate at WOODWEB's Exchanges and Job Opportunities and Services.
  • Messages that accuse businesses or individuals of alleged negative actions or behavior are inappropriate since WOODWEB is unable to verify or substantiate the claims.
  • Posts with the intent of soliciting answers to surveys are not appropriate. Contact WOODWEB for more information on initiating a survey.
  • Excessive forum participation by an individual upsets the balance of a healthy forum atmosphere. Individuals who excessively post responses containing marginal content will be considered repeat forum abusers.
  • Responses that initiate or support inappropriate and off-topic discussion of general politics detract from the professional woodworking focus of WOODWEB, and will be removed.
  • Participants are encouraged to use their real name when posting. Intentionally using another persons name is prohibited, and posts of this nature will be removed at WOODWEB's discretion.
  • Comments, questions, or criticisms regarding Forum policies should be directed to WOODWEB's Systems Administrator

WOODWEB's forums are a highly regarded resource for professional woodworkers. Messages and responses that are crafted in a professional and civil manner strengthen this resource. Messages that do not reflect a professional tone reduce the value of our forums.

Messages are inappropriate when their content: is deemed libelous in nature or is based on rumor, fails to meet basic standards of decorum, contains blatant advertising or inappropriate emphasis on self promotion (return to top).

Libel:   Posts which defame an individual or organization, or employ a tone which can be viewed as malicious in nature. Words, pictures, or cartoons which expose a person or organization to public hatred, shame, disgrace, or ridicule, or induce an ill opinion of a person or organization, are libelous.

Improper Decorum:   Posts which are profane, inciting, disrespectful or uncivil in tone, or maliciously worded. This also includes the venting of unsubstantiated opinions. Such messages do little to illuminate a given topic, and often have the opposite effect. Constructive criticism is acceptable (return to top).

Advertising:   The purpose of WOODWEB Forums is to provide answers, not an advertising venue. Companies participating in a Forum discussion should provide specific answers to posted questions. WOODWEB suggests that businesses include an appropriately crafted signature in order to identify their company. A well meaning post that seems to be on-topic but contains a product reference may do your business more harm than good in the Forum environment. Forum users may perceive your references to specific products as unsolicited advertising (spam) and consciously avoid your web site or services. A well-crafted signature is an appropriate way to advertise your services that will not offend potential customers. Signatures should be limited to 4-6 lines, and may contain information that identifies the type of business you're in, your URL and email address (return to top).

Repeated Forum Abuse: Forum participants who repeatedly fail to follow WOODWEB's Forum Guidelines may encounter difficulty when attempting to post messages.

There are often situations when the original message asks for opinions: "What is the best widget for my type of shop?". To a certain extent, the person posting the message is responsible for including specific questions within the message. An open ended question (like the one above) invites responses that may read as sales pitches. WOODWEB suggests that companies responding to such a question provide detailed and substantive replies rather than responses that read as a one-sided product promotion. It has been WOODWEB's experience that substantive responses are held in higher regard by our readers (return to top).
