Microvellum adding 2nd Mid-Rail to Appliance Panel

Hey everyone, been struggling for this one and gave up. I'm trying to create tall appliance panels/columns for a kitchen that require two mid-rails in the framed 5 piece panel. In the prompts there is a checkbox to add a mid-rail but there is no option to add another one?? I also tried doing the same thing with a Misc. Back Panel product and a Wall Panel product to no avail. After those attempts failed I used the part properties/design data to shrink and move panels and copy the mid-rail to create my own. After modifying and moving 1 of the panels, my stick and cope disappeared on my hardwood door parts. Failed miserably. Surely Microvellum has come up with a way to add 2 Mid-Rails to a panel or door?? It seems the further we go with the face frame cabinetry in the program the less the program is capable, and even some products/parts of the software left unfinished? Thanks for reading.

You are going to shoot yourself in the foot Frank.

Machining tokens are based on criteria. If the criteria is there it should work fine.

Frank,

Just curious, but have you tried going into the subassembly prompts for that item? (one level deeper than the product prompts). Sometimes you get lucky and the subassembly is actually more capable than the product prompts let on. If not, you'll need to dig deep to make the data do what you want in your own subassembly, then update your library with that new data. It's all possible, I did it myself at a past company, but it will take some work.

Gary - No there is no sub-assembly I have found in any part of the program that will allow you to add a 2nd Mid-Rail to ANY of their existing products. I'm talking applied finished returns, any type of door, wall panel, back panel nothing. Which makes me question where they plan on going with these face frame features within the program. Why make them available if they only finished half the program/libraries ability to design custom features. As for you David, machining tokens are great..if you are trying to dado a part, if you are putting in an access or utility hole in the back of a cabinet, not for designing a column with an 2 mid-rails. Thanks for your guys help

Hi Frank,

Wondering what version of the library are you using? Gary is correct in that sometimes the subassembly prompts contain more detailed construction options to explore. This is more true in some of the newer library versions.

Here is a screen shot of a Tall cabinet with 2 mid rails at the side applied panel. We can also specify what the adjacent condition is to accommodate a base & upper to bump, for example. So you might consider taking this subassembly and modifying it to accommodate an appliance panel like you describe. You can also inquire with the community of other MV users over at support.microvellum.com. Perhaps someone else has already created one.

Next month Microvellum will be releasing a new version of its library. This version contains a large amount of new products and features geared for the residential market specifically. You can stay up to date with what’s coming out via the MV YouTube channel, or if you really want to learn more, come out and join our technical conference on April 27 & 28. MV will be providing a variety of workshop training classes that you can choose from. There will be two options dedicated to the library data itself. One all day beginner level and one all day advanced level. Considering the current cost of one on one training, this event is an inexpensive way to get some specific training to advance your MV skills. www.microvellum.com/techcon2017

If for anything else, you will have the opportunity to petition directly to the MV developers what you feel is missing in the program/library data. Even better appliance panels!

WOODWEB's forums are a highly regarded resource for professional woodworkers. Messages and responses that are crafted in a professional and civil manner strengthen this resource. Messages that do not reflect a professional tone reduce the value of our forums.

Messages are inappropriate when their content: is deemed libelous in nature or is based on rumor, fails to meet basic standards of decorum, contains blatant advertising or inappropriate emphasis on self promotion (return to top).

Libel:   Posts which defame an individual or organization, or employ a tone which can be viewed as malicious in nature. Words, pictures, or cartoons which expose a person or organization to public hatred, shame, disgrace, or ridicule, or induce an ill opinion of a person or organization, are libelous.

Improper Decorum:   Posts which are profane, inciting, disrespectful or uncivil in tone, or maliciously worded. This also includes the venting of unsubstantiated opinions. Such messages do little to illuminate a given topic, and often have the opposite effect. Constructive criticism is acceptable (return to top).

Advertising:   The purpose of WOODWEB Forums is to provide answers, not an advertising venue. Companies participating in a Forum discussion should provide specific answers to posted questions. WOODWEB suggests that businesses include an appropriately crafted signature in order to identify their company. A well meaning post that seems to be on-topic but contains a product reference may do your business more harm than good in the Forum environment. Forum users may perceive your references to specific products as unsolicited advertising (spam) and consciously avoid your web site or services. A well-crafted signature is an appropriate way to advertise your services that will not offend potential customers. Signatures should be limited to 4-6 lines, and may contain information that identifies the type of business you're in, your URL and email address (return to top).

Repeated Forum Abuse: Forum participants who repeatedly fail to follow WOODWEB's Forum Guidelines may encounter difficulty when attempting to post messages.

There are often situations when the original message asks for opinions: "What is the best widget for my type of shop?". To a certain extent, the person posting the message is responsible for including specific questions within the message. An open ended question (like the one above) invites responses that may read as sales pitches. WOODWEB suggests that companies responding to such a question provide detailed and substantive replies rather than responses that read as a one-sided product promotion. It has been WOODWEB's experience that substantive responses are held in higher regard by our readers (return to top).
