do all cnc router spindles require a ton
of compressed air to keep them cool or do
some cool by a fan. I am looking
at getting
a used router soon but dont want to get a bigger compressor too.

mine has a fan no need for air to cool but you will need it for counter balance and an ATC if you get one.

We run our entire shop off a 10 hp compressor and make up to 20 tool changes on the cnc per hour easy. We spray glue, sand corian and spray lacquer, not to mention the edgebander is constantly running. We have an HSD spindle and Biesse router

I run a shopsabre and just put a hsd atc on it. You will need air also for their balance cylinder for the spindle.
The only way I can see you not needing air is going to a manual tool change spindle. A moderate compressor of maybe 30 gallon or more should keep up fine. I have a stand up 5 hp compressor and it kicks off every 30 minutes or so. The dust collection and vac hold down are more costly and more noise than the compressor.

yes thank you I know I will air I am just
trying to avoid a spindle that cools
itself with compressed air. I have a HSD
spindle on my rover point to point and
that dosent use much air. Does anybody
know which spindles use compressed air to cool themselves?

We have liquid cooling on the anderson CabMaxx. It's the way to go when your in a production situation. Be careful of these smaller routers, some are very low production as in they won't make very many parts per hour.
