Sort of in response to a post about a shopbot in another forum and my own curiosity, what are people using for drill bit material, speed and feed rate in melamine and MDF?
I read somewhere that nested cnc is 30% cutting and 70% drilling, (not sure I agree) but in any case, it's a lot of time and it'd be nice to get it done as fast as possible.
We drill with carbide or carbide tipped bits.
I would be interested to see where other shops are on this.
We use TiN coated drill bits for MDF and ply.
We are running carbide bits. Lots of melamine and plywood. Not sure on the feed and speed.
We have a drill bank with 20 drills- 10 in the y and 10 in the x 8- 8mm and 12- 5mm We dowel our cabinets.
Drill is much shorter for us with the head config we have about 15% max unless lots of drawer box parts then 25%
Brad-point carbide dowel drills. 175 IPM @ 5000rpm, one poke in sheet goods. Hardwoods peck drill 3/8"/pass
