Cutting quality of 1/4 Durabase
4/28/15
I'm having trouble with the cut quality of my 1/4 cabinet backs (MDF with white paint on 1 side. Product name: Durabase) What tooling is recommended? 3/8 compression and 1/4 downsheer isn't very good. I don't see the point in buying a mortise compression since the upsheer is part of the bit is greater than the thickness of the material. I'm pondering using a 2 pass system of 1/4 downsheer at an 1/8" pass and then coming back with an upsheer to finish it off. I'm not worried about the extra time because the machine already spits these sheets out faster than my guy can label the previous sheet. What do you guys use?

Face down and a compression bit like the Vortex 3130xp is what we are using. We have noticed a huge difference when the table needs to be flycut and this especailly true when we nest jobs with lots of drawer parts. We always clean off a .15 pass with a flycut before 1/4" back parts are cut.
We run return onion skin with a 40hp pump because we are cutting @ 800 IPM.
Hope I helped
