Feed speed on plywood parts (CDX)
10/26/15
I am looking for the best feed speed/bits to cut a very large quantity of CDX and HDO plywood sheets. Cut quality is of little importance for most of the parts. I have plenty of room for a bigger bit if I need it and 2 vacuum pumps so hold down shouldn't be an issue.
I am also looking for the best plywood bit for cutting 1/2" baltic birch where the edge does matter.

A week or so ago I was cutting poplar ply 1/2 deep at 1100 IPM with a 3 flute up-cut roughing bit.
Use a chipbreaker if a good edge is needed. Can't get the speed though.

Jason I would call Vortex and tell them your goals. It also depends on spindle HP, accuracy desired, vacuum (you said you are good).

I'd say you are being optimistic on holding down CDX. Not only is it not flat, it's not sanded smooth. Vacuum is not going to hold it down. Since I don't know what machine you are using, I can't recommend a speed. As mentioned, talk to the bit supplier.
