Onsrud Z Axis Crash6/22
I have a friend with an Onsrud 120C10 and if the machine goes into emergency the Z axis just drops all the way to the table and in most cases it cuts through the spoil board.
Shouldn't a Z axis brake come on as soon as an emergency is pressed?
first for yours answer ,yes the brake should stop it
I think what the other poster was saying is- Does your machine have some gas struts that hold the head up when the servo for the Z axis releases?
If there is enough wear in the ball screw nut, and power is cut completely off to the servo, the head will drop if there is not an air cylinder or spring strut to help out. It is odd that the spindle takes so long to spool down when the estop is hit. I've never been around that brand of machine.
Has your friend contacted CR Onsrud's tech support? Most likely this is a simple fix. As "Snaglpuss" suggested, the gas struts on the z-axis may need to be replaced. They are inexpensive, available for same day shipment, and simple to replace.
