Has anyone else noticed a change in the Plum Creek MDF?
I'm getting warped material and it seems more porous than it used to be. It's now impossible to make a 1 piece shaker door.
The new stuff says Weyerhauser on it, not Plum Creek.
Weyerhaeuser bought Plum creek and merged over a year ago
I have noticed that the panels are either not sanded properly or the moisture content might be higher. Some panels get up to 0.77" thick. Even higher towards the edge. We use the MDF as finished product so we might need a new supplier. Have used several different mills over the years and moved on due to quality issues, not price so if anyone has recommendations, I'm listening. Midwest, BTW.
Yes I've also seen lots of warped panels from them recently. Not pleasant, and no alternatives that I can find.
We noticed the difference last week and called the supplier. that is how it is going to be in the future.
So what are good options?
Obviously this isn't worth the extra money any more.
Ranger Board premium if you can find it.
I have noticed same issues with last batch of plum creek I ordered. I normally use Ranger which is a lot better. Hardwoods Specialty Products carries it in Michigan.
Same thing here. Stamped .750 and its around 770 at the edges. Will have to check into ranger myself.
