Grease bearings

Hi folks, so we have an omnitech selexx mate CNC. I have a blocked grease bearing. In the past wd40 and elbow grease has worked, but no more. Any suggestions? I always clean the nipple before putting in new grease, and to clean the bearing I try to spray wd40, and use a little brush... But no love. :)

Are you talking about a ball nut?
We set our movement speed to slow and have one guy jog the gantry slowly to rotate the nut while another pumps the grease gun. Works everytime.

If you are talking about cleaning the grease nipple before using a grease gun then try carburetor cleaner. Used sparingly it should do the job without spreading to areas where it doesn't belong.

On second thought brake cleaner should also do the job while being a little less aggressive.

WD40 is not a lubricant! It's about the last thing to use in the shop on bearings.

Are you planning to use a grease gun and zirc to fill the bearing? The grease gun can apply a lot of pressure. Resist the urge to force so much grease into the bearing that is starts to leak out of the seals. A squirt or two should be plenty.

Thanks for all the responses guys, it's not the nipple that's blocked but the grease bearing that's on the guide rod. There's a block somewhere in the system so that I can't pump any more grease in.

Update: I know the block is at the guide rod end, I just can't get a wrench in there to unscrew the hose from the guide bearing. I want to make sure the blockage isn't in the hose

It's just a push to connect fitting pull it out and try to see if it's the hose.
Or remove the stop block and push the machine back and unbolt the push to connect and try to push grease through it.
Make sure there isn't a hole in the line between the greasers and the bearing

Yup, push connector. It's easier to come apart if you push that sleeve in towards the fitting, then pull the tube.

Thanks for all the help guys, the push connector part especially. I've isolated the problem is in the bearing end, still working on it.
