Rate your CNC for us. Some of us may be looking at buying new or replacing and it's best to get info from real owners rather than sales people. I'll set some criteria but feel free to add your own:

Brand / Model:
Year:
Table Size:
Vacuums:
Price (if you're willing to share):
Controller:

How reliable is your machine?

Are you happy with support?

How quirky is your machine?

What do you like best about your specific machine?

What do you like least?

Are you happy with your decision to buy that specific machine?

Whatever else you want to add...

Since I'm the one asking, I'll go first.

Brand / Model: Busellato Easy Jet
Year: 2014
Table Size: 5x12
Vacuums: 2 10HP Beckers
Price (if you're willing to share): $95,000
Controller: PC

How reliable is your machine?

So far so good. I've had very little down time.

Are you happy with support?

Support is good but I feel like you have to know the right people to get a quick response.

How quirky is your machine?

This is my biggest complaint. My machine has a mind of it's own sometimes. Sometimes we some crazy error code and just restarting the machine does the trick. Other times, you have to mess with it for 2 hours and then suddenly the problem is gone. It get quirkier the hotter it gets in the shop. I won't even run it if the outside temp is above 100.

What do you like best about your specific machine?

It's a large machine with lots of capability for (what I think) was a pretty budget price. I also love the auto off loading. Saves us a bunch of time. We can be labeling and sorting parts while the machine is working on the next sheet.

What do you like least?

Not knowing if my CNC will wake up on the wrong side of the bed and give me problems all day- not likely but it does happen from time to time.

Are you happy with your decision to buy that specific machine?

All in all, I think it was a good decision. It got me into the CNC door and that has been the single biggest driver of growth for us.

Whatever else you want to add...

Feel free to ask questions.

Brand / Model: ShopSabre 408PRO 10HPHSD
Year: 2016
Table Size: 60x100
Vacuum: F4
Price (if you're willing to share): $50Kish
Controller: PC/WinCNC

How reliable is your machine?

Zero issues with machine to date other than operator error

Are you happy with support?

To date we have always been able to get someone on the phone either immediately or with a short wait on hold. We have always tended more towards email as we havent had any urgent support issues and usually have an answer back within minutes to an hour or so.

How quirky is your machine?

The only quirks we have experience have been after a power outage or when the power will flicker prior to and we will rush to shutdown. After these instances it can be a crapshoot as to where the machine thinks it is or what tool it has after re-homing. This has only happened perhaps twice.

What do you like best about your specific machine?

Cost, rigidity, build quality, and domestic made.

What do you like least?

My only two complaints about the entire machine is I hate the PVC ball valves for zone control. We frequently toggle zones on and off for loading/unloading and wish the valves were conventional brass ball valves that were much easier to operate as opposed to having to two hand the PVC valves. The second thing is that greasing the rotating ball nuts on the Y axis is a bit of a PITA and the zircs could be better located or remoted to a bracket that was easily accessible from the side of the machine.

Are you happy with your decision to buy that specific machine?

Yes. No complaints. Bigger and more bells and whistles would alway be nice but at this price point I dont think we would have many any different decisions.

Machine:
Spectrum by Anderson America
Year: 2015
Table: 5 x 10
Vacuum: 2 Becker 10 hp linked together
Price: 75k. Delivered installed with alpha cam software
Controller: Fanuc
Reliability: Exceptional. Does what it is supposed to do every time. Only operator stupidity causes problems.
Tech Support. Exceptional. Can be difficult getting thru at times
Quirks: Hard to explain. X&Y are backwards to the way you would think. Zero origin is at the wrong corner of the table. Have to always remember to reset offset coordinate depending on the material size.
Like best: Big bang for the $$. Heavy machine. Nice features. Great vacuum. Very easy to run.
Like least. Spindle power. Underpowered when cutting dense MDF, have to really adjust chipload when compared to particle board. The spindle is oiled cooled/lubricated. I worry about the longevity.
Happy with decision to buy this particular model.

Comments: three warranty issues. All handled with very fast turnaround. One issue required on-site tech support....after doing all trouble shooting they asked for, and I said no more, I had a technician at my site in four hours. Luck of the draw, but it still happened......

Northwood 265 IH
2003
Two 5’ x 6’ Tables Full 5’ x 12’ coverage by all tools
Travaini Oil Vane 40HP
G.E. Fanuc 160i Control Integrated PC
4 interpolating axis X,Y,Z,C
18HP spindle 13vert +3 horiz. Drills 7.5HP 0-90° saw
Use 3 aggregates Benz Flex Unit, Atemag dual 90, and Benz Moulder Head. We use them extensively.

Reliability: Extremely small downtime over 15+ years. Mainly wear items or things we broke like tool carousel plastic grippers. Replaced x axis screw after 14 years of service

Support: Excellent, also service when needed has been very good.

Quirky? None on the machine end.

Likes: Too many to list for nesting cabinets and especially architectural millwork items. This machine transformed our company.

Dislikes: I wish our space would have allowed for a bigger machine, but that doesn't have anything to do with the equipment.

Decision : I made the correct decision then and would not hesitate to buy another Northwood with similar specs for our operation.

How reliable is your machine? A few sensors replaced and tool forks.

Are you happy with support? Very its free and all of the phone support has helped me through many stupid questions

How quirky is your machine? We had some quirky issues from CabinetVision post in the beginning.

What do you like best about your specific machine? It is fast and accurate and not having to load and unload each sheet is nice. i really like being able to fix the offices mistakes on the fly in the programs

What do you like least? we have it lifted to accept full bunks of material. it is too tall for my liking

Are you happy with your decision to buy that specific machine? we are

Whatever else you want to add... knowing what we know now i wish they would have got more drilling spindles and automatic labeling. i think if we had that we could do more than 100 sheets a day without breaking a sweat

FORUM GUIDELINES: Please review the guidelines below before posting at WOODWEB's Interactive Message Boards (return to top)

  • WOODWEB is a professional industrial woodworking site. Hobbyist and homeowner woodworking questions are inappropriate.
  • Messages should be kept reasonably short and on topic, relating to the focus of the forum. Responses should relate to the original question.
  • A valid email return address must be included with each message.
  • Advertising is inappropriate. The only exceptions are the Classified Ads Exchange, Machinery Exchange, Lumber Exchange, and Job Opportunities and Services Exchange. When posting listings in these areas, review the posting instructions carefully.
  • Subject lines may be edited for length and clarity.
  • "Cross posting" is not permitted. Choose the best forum for your question, and post your question at one forum only.
  • Messages requesting private responses will be removed - Forums are designed to provide information and assistance for all of our visitors. Private response requests are appropriate at WOODWEB's Exchanges and Job Opportunities and Services.
  • Messages that accuse businesses or individuals of alleged negative actions or behavior are inappropriate since WOODWEB is unable to verify or substantiate the claims.
  • Posts with the intent of soliciting answers to surveys are not appropriate. Contact WOODWEB for more information on initiating a survey.
  • Excessive forum participation by an individual upsets the balance of a healthy forum atmosphere. Individuals who excessively post responses containing marginal content will be considered repeat forum abusers.
  • Responses that initiate or support inappropriate and off-topic discussion of general politics detract from the professional woodworking focus of WOODWEB, and will be removed.
  • Participants are encouraged to use their real name when posting. Intentionally using another persons name is prohibited, and posts of this nature will be removed at WOODWEB's discretion.
  • Comments, questions, or criticisms regarding Forum policies should be directed to WOODWEB's Systems Administrator
    (return to top).

You will be notified of responses to the message(s) you posted via email. Be sure to enter your email address correctly.

WOODWEB's forums are a highly regarded resource for professional woodworkers. Messages and responses that are crafted in a professional and civil manner strengthen this resource. Messages that do not reflect a professional tone reduce the value of our forums.

Messages are inappropriate when their content: is deemed libelous in nature or is based on rumor, fails to meet basic standards of decorum, contains blatant advertising or inappropriate emphasis on self promotion (return to top).

Libel:   Posts which defame an individual or organization, or employ a tone which can be viewed as malicious in nature. Words, pictures, or cartoons which expose a person or organization to public hatred, shame, disgrace, or ridicule, or induce an ill opinion of a person or organization, are libelous.

Improper Decorum:   Posts which are profane, inciting, disrespectful or uncivil in tone, or maliciously worded. This also includes the venting of unsubstantiated opinions. Such messages do little to illuminate a given topic, and often have the opposite effect. Constructive criticism is acceptable (return to top).

Advertising:   The purpose of WOODWEB Forums is to provide answers, not an advertising venue. Companies participating in a Forum discussion should provide specific answers to posted questions. WOODWEB suggests that businesses include an appropriately crafted signature in order to identify their company. A well meaning post that seems to be on-topic but contains a product reference may do your business more harm than good in the Forum environment. Forum users may perceive your references to specific products as unsolicited advertising (spam) and consciously avoid your web site or services. A well-crafted signature is an appropriate way to advertise your services that will not offend potential customers. Signatures should be limited to 4-6 lines, and may contain information that identifies the type of business you're in, your URL and email address (return to top).

Repeated Forum Abuse: Forum participants who repeatedly fail to follow WOODWEB's Forum Guidelines may encounter difficulty when attempting to post messages.

There are often situations when the original message asks for opinions: "What is the best widget for my type of shop?". To a certain extent, the person posting the message is responsible for including specific questions within the message. An open ended question (like the one above) invites responses that may read as sales pitches. WOODWEB suggests that companies responding to such a question provide detailed and substantive replies rather than responses that read as a one-sided product promotion. It has been WOODWEB's experience that substantive responses are held in higher regard by our readers (return to top).

The staff of WOODWEB assume no responsibility for the accuracy, content, or outcome of any posting transmitted at WOODWEB's Message Boards. Participants should undertake the use of machinery, materials and methods discussed at WOODWEB's Message Boards after considerate evaluation, and at their own risk.
