fire code issue for dust size- HELP8/8
can anyone tell me what size the dust partilces are for cutting melamine on a cnc router? i need a general idea. i know it depends on speed and feed but i've been hit with a fire code violation that will require me to separate my space with fire walls.
The rule is 420 microns or less requires a fire wall. can anyone tell me how big that is? i need some technical date to provide.
We are shut down until i can fix this. Please help if you have anywhere i can turn. Thanks.
New inspector trying to make name for himself?
420 microns is 0.016 inches. Seems to me all sawdust is smaller.
Do they want the dust collector behind a firewall?
What about the fine dust from sanding?
You can measure 420 microns with a digital caliper. OSHA got really concerned about fine dust sitting on top of ducts and structure. The small stuff is the material that can flash off quickly. Also the stuff that kills woodworkers with lung issues. Do you have a burst panel in your dust collector system? That's something else they get particular with.
thanks for the responses. we just got an inspector trying to make a name for himself. firewalls ain't cheap!!
We as well are shut down due to a 3 hr firewall that our local fire/building dept is requiring for our facility. 5K in engineering, 25K+in construction. You will be unable to penetrate your firewall with any dust pipe runs....air filtration units may help your cause in the immediate area. I m curious about there testing procedures for this...
Sorry to hear about this fire code stuff, it's a hard issue in our shop too!
