Booster Fan
3/5/14
My dust collector is not producing enough suction at the end of the 8" main run where the wide belt is located. I bought the extra fan pictured below to mount close to the wide belt in hopes of boosting suction. Is this possible? Has anyone done this before and have any advice on going about it? The current DC is a two bag 5hp Delta.

Hello, I did the same thing a couple of years ago and have had good results.
I was cautioned not to use to big a booster because it would over spin the main dust collector and burn it up prematurely. Sorry I don't have details of how much CFM to use.

If you have an 8" main, and loss, I can't see how this would hurt. Just make sure that you do not create a case of packing 1/2 the main and it getting too heavy for the straps holding it because of the lack of volume @ the source of the 5hp. We run our wide belt off of 6" pipe with a 2hp Onieda. The results are incredible. Of course it is dedicated and use an 8' tall dust bag to generate better air flow then the constricting cartridge filter.

I think the limiting factor, if you push more air into your system, is going to be the filter media. the less resistance the exhaust air has the better your system is going to preform. it needs a way to get out or your effort will be moot.
