Hi, yes, adding 60% filter area.
I have to admit I'm trying to turn a 3hp powermatic pm1800 into a 5hp.
Belive it or not it's been doing admirably in my 1200 Sq ft shop. But the planer could use a little more draw, getting some chip prints on the surfaces.
Bill pentz's design used a 5hp motor with 16 inch impeller. Pm1800 has 14". Housing is 18" maybe larger, can't remember right now.... would you think you need 2" around impeller for it to work right or 1" ok?
Currently have 6" duct. Thinking of upgrading mains to 8", max inlet DC.
Also the collector is a floor model twin bag collector, so I intend to remove motor and housing to invert and elevate to same elevation as main , about 11'. Then make a plywood box tube from it down to the newly inverted wye that splits to the two bags.
Currently my main turns down from the 11', then has to turn in to blower. I could eliminate two turns, the worst is the one directly into blower.
Seems like a monkey f@#%, but I really like this particular model with the snap rings on the collection bags. I cut off the canvas bags and use the snap rings with 3mil contractor bags, super easy for swapping out. Then the cost of a new 5hp with shipping to hawaii, it's cheaper to beef up what's here. Then no snap rings on the 5hp.
Don't want to empty cans, the bags are by far too efficient. Sometimes 30 bags one day, rarely but maybe 3 times a year. Also never had to dispose of them, set them outside, gone in 30 minutes. Too easy.
Can get Leeson motor and 16" impeller for about $600.better than $1500.
