cnc dust collection5/20
I'm a new owner/operator of a flat table cnc with a 10hp atc spindle. It has a 4" dust collection port which I hooked up to a 1 hp, 2 bag dust collector that I wasn't using for anything else. It picks up anywhere from 50 - 75% of the dust, depending on the operation. I'd like to improve that, so I'm looking at some new options. I have 4 other cyclones in my shop that are 3 - 10 hp, but they're all too far away from the cnc, especially considering the 4" hose limitation.
Since I'll probably be buying a new collector dedicated to the cnc, will a 2 hp unit be sufficient? Would a 3 hp unit be appreciably better if my hose is limited to 4"?
I would go to 3HP and 6". Mod the pickup if you have to.
It's never enough...
Tool design and cutting strategy also has a big influence.
I have a 10 hp and 8". It's not even close to enough. Best situation I ever ran was a 100 hp collector, and it still left crap everywhere.
Thanks for the responses. I have a 3hp unit with 5" ducting I could divert for a test run. I think I"ll try that first before I buy anything.
Just hooked ours up to a 5hp blower -9" inlet to a custom baghouse, Works decent.. We have a 7.5hp cyclone on its way to replace the 5hp blower. I'll report back once installed.
Like the other guys said, bigger the better
