Oneida Dust Collector Conundrum

1/9/18

Hi All,
We currently are running 2 dust collectors.
Oneida Air 5 hp high vac and a Nederman S750 7.5 hp.

We used to use the Oneida dedicated on our CNC. Preformed great, but with one downside. The Pleated filter would get clogged and need to be removed and taken outside and literally beaten with a stick to clear it.

As our production increased it became too time consuming and we replaced it with the Nederman.

We just moved into our new shop and installed the old Onieda dedicated to our edgebander and it works great. Finally have enough power to clear out the tails from the 2mm pvc we primarily run.

I miss the power of the Onieda on the CNC.
Has anyone used a filter bag/bags in place of the pleated filter on an cyclone type dust collector? If so, how well does it work?

Thanks
Bob

I've been running my Oneida collector with the same pleated filter for about 6 years. I run my CNC, shaper, and edgebander to it. Never a problem cleaning the filter. When the gauge nears 3, I blow compressed air from the outside of the filter to the inside. Take the pan off the bottom and empty it. Filter works just like new.

We had an Oneida (15hp) and had to replace the filters eventually. We had a plenum that was used to clean sanding table filters. It was hooked to another collector. When it began to get clogged we would hold the end over the plenum and blow from the outside in. With two sets of filters it allowed a thorough cleaning when we had time.

You can certainly use a filter bag or baghouse on that collector. Call American Fabric filters and ask their opinions on what can be done. You may need to have a plenum made for the output so you can put more than one bag.

Good luck!

I got rid of the Oneida pleated filters and added an Aget baghouse with a shaker and have never looked back.

I found them to be nothing but a maintenance nightmare.

If your filters are clogging like that you likely have a vacuum leak in your collection bin. Maybe around the top metal hoop or even a hole somewhere in the barrel.

Only time I'd have to beat the filter is if I let the bin get to full and it pushed chips into it.

I run my Oneida without a filter now, piped straight outside. Benefit of operating very quietly and no filters to worry about. But it can suck the heat/cool out of the building if you run it a lot or are in a smaller building.

I bought an Aget baghouse with shaker and never got around to installing it. I was thinking an added benefit is it would quiet it down.

A couple months ago we got rid of every pleated filter in the shop, replaced them with cloth ones from American fabric filter. Much better performance

I put an Aget baghouse on my cyclone as well. Got a full set of Beane tubes for it as well when we installed it. Tons of filter area, works great. Air quality as measured by a Dylos particle counter is consistently good.

WOODWEB's forums are a highly regarded resource for professional woodworkers. Messages and responses that are crafted in a professional and civil manner strengthen this resource. Messages that do not reflect a professional tone reduce the value of our forums.

Messages are inappropriate when their content: is deemed libelous in nature or is based on rumor, fails to meet basic standards of decorum, contains blatant advertising or inappropriate emphasis on self promotion (return to top).

Libel:   Posts which defame an individual or organization, or employ a tone which can be viewed as malicious in nature. Words, pictures, or cartoons which expose a person or organization to public hatred, shame, disgrace, or ridicule, or induce an ill opinion of a person or organization, are libelous.

Improper Decorum:   Posts which are profane, inciting, disrespectful or uncivil in tone, or maliciously worded. This also includes the venting of unsubstantiated opinions. Such messages do little to illuminate a given topic, and often have the opposite effect. Constructive criticism is acceptable (return to top).

Advertising:   The purpose of WOODWEB Forums is to provide answers, not an advertising venue. Companies participating in a Forum discussion should provide specific answers to posted questions. WOODWEB suggests that businesses include an appropriately crafted signature in order to identify their company. A well meaning post that seems to be on-topic but contains a product reference may do your business more harm than good in the Forum environment. Forum users may perceive your references to specific products as unsolicited advertising (spam) and consciously avoid your web site or services. A well-crafted signature is an appropriate way to advertise your services that will not offend potential customers. Signatures should be limited to 4-6 lines, and may contain information that identifies the type of business you're in, your URL and email address (return to top).

Repeated Forum Abuse: Forum participants who repeatedly fail to follow WOODWEB's Forum Guidelines may encounter difficulty when attempting to post messages.

There are often situations when the original message asks for opinions: "What is the best widget for my type of shop?". To a certain extent, the person posting the message is responsible for including specific questions within the message. An open ended question (like the one above) invites responses that may read as sales pitches. WOODWEB suggests that companies responding to such a question provide detailed and substantive replies rather than responses that read as a one-sided product promotion. It has been WOODWEB's experience that substantive responses are held in higher regard by our readers (return to top).
