High Bay LED if your already forking out money to replace or install fixtures..... Beautiful lighting.

High Bay T5HO lights (the ones with very wide reflectors) are likewise about as good as it gets, it's what we used. We skipped LED because the few we bought and tested created odd, frustrating shadows that made handwork and layouts rather frustrating to do. T5HO doens't create shadows in the same way.

We've had about 20 high bay units (6 bulbs each) in use for 4 years, no bulbs have burned out in that time, and no ballasts.

Other half of our building was done the same way 2 years ago-- 21 more units, no bulbs burned out, no blown ballasts.

Downside, you need them at least 10-12 ft off the ground otherwise you turn the spot under them into a tanning salon.

How tall is your ceiling? How many lights do you need/do you know how many lights you need?

Check what incentives your electric company has. Depending if it is a new install or a retrofit they will rebate you on the lights. Going from HID to LED is the biggest incentive in my area. I can buy a LED high bay for less than they pay.

Get with the electrical supply company. The fixture manufacturer will do a plant layout for lighting to achieve a specific lighting level.

My electrical supply company will loan me lights to test. There is an advantage to buying locally.

Have T5 light fixtures 4' in length. 12' foot off the floor. Great lighting and have replaced 10 bulbs in 5 years.

I agree with Shane, high bay LED is the way to go. Not sure who your energy supplier is but here in Cincinnati you can get big boy credits usually enough to pay for the lights and professional install. You have to pick from a list of green products but they are all excellent. You pay in advance and then send bills to Energy Company and get a rebate check. This is for real.

T5 LED is also nice but I like them up higher to eliminate so many shadows. Just a personal bit.

I have replaced my regular T8 4-foot lights with T5HO lights and love them. I ordered LED but the output isn't as good as the T5 high-output lights. I just ordered four more to replace a few more T8 4foot lights. Also, my shop has 10-foot ceilings and I flush mount the T5HO.
