Cerused finishes

We are a custom contract furniture manufacturer (think big conference and boardroom tables) and are seeing more and more cerused finishes on rift white oak. We use Mohawk stains and Valspar precat lacquers for our normal finishes. I'm curious what others are doing to achieve the cerused look? Any comments would be very appreciated! Thx!

wirebrush the wood. (opens the grains real nice)
spray stain.
seal.
spray white powder glaze.
topcoat.
we do thousands and thousands of panels this way. the powder glaze is great stuff. you just spray it on and it dries almost instantly. Then u knock off the excess with a scotchbrite (or scuffing pad) .. it literally just falls off the surface, staying only in the glaze.

you can get the powder glaze in neutral as well and tint it.. i will upload a few pics of the approved samples on the current high rise we are in production on right now.

There definitely is no easier/more effective method then what i do.

The powder glaze is available from Sherwin Williams. Its similar to ML Campbell Amazing Glaze but its SOOOOO much better.. the rex # is S66WH5

It works with both solvent based and water based coatings. (although the glaze itself uses acetone as a vehicle, it has no affect on the water base coating)

We run the panels through our wirebrush machine, then run them threw our cefla to stain, then back threw cefla to seal, then back thru cefla to powder glaze, then we scuff off the excess (on most large orders we do this on the same machine we wirebrushed with, just by switching the head to a flatter wheel instead of wire) then back thru cefla for topcoat. heres a couple of out approved samples for this project using this method. (and yes, this trend is VERY big right now. Almost all of our projects are wirebrushed / cerused these days)

Kevin is right.

Get the Makita wire drum, looks like a handheld belt sander, and a wire drum (not the plastic bristle one that comes with it).

You can get white powder glazes from most finish distributors, like SW.

Everyone has their preferred method, we just wire-wheel the wood, wipe the glaze on, 1 minute dry, dust it off, and finish up with 3 coats of clear. That's over natural wood

If it's a black cerused finish, use the exact same process, but be aggressive with the wire drum, and spray 2 coats of black vinyl sealer first, then do the white powder glaze.

It's not a hard finish to do, but keeping the white hangup can be tricky.

The Valspar Zenith is a powder glaze.....mentioned it specifically as you mentioned you were already using valspar product.

can you tell me where you find the powder glaze from sherwin williams.
none near me seem to have ever heard of it.
