just like the subject says; first time using this fish-eye stopper.50 year old 2'×3' dresser top. After sanding off the old finish, staining, and a self-seal coat of CV, 1,000 fish eyes appear. So l sand and stain again and now l'm ready to clear but this time l'm armed with a bottle of Smoothie...anything l need to know beyond the directions on the bottle?

More very thin coats will work better than a couple of thick coats.

In addition to what Leo G recommends, I might add that its also important to not put to much Smoothie in your coating. Just a few drops is all it takes.

Next time you tackle a job like this, strip off the original coating with a chemical stripper, sanding is not the best way to remove the finish.

The likely reason you're getting fisheyes is silicone contamination of the surface caused by furniture polish. Using stripper may have removed the polish, but I've seen examples where it leaves it in the pores.

Smoothie is a silicone that compatibilizes your lacquer with the silicone contaminant. It also tends to contaminate your equipment with silicone, so you may have to use it even when the surface isn't contaminated. Be extra careful to wash out your entire spray system after using it.

You could also try re-stripping with chemical stripper.

Thank you-all for the info.light thin coats and 8 drops to a quart of CV worked out great. l'm sorry l didn't read Arthur's post until l had already put the material in my favorite Sata RP gravity gun...hopefully cleaning the daylights out of it will ensure it still can spray non Smoothie altered finish in the future.

You'll be fine, a good wash and you're good to go. Just be really careful you don't get any overspray on anything or the sanding dust from that layer. I also use a 2K isolante barrier coat instead of Smoothie. My favorite is Chemcraft. That eliminates any worry about silicone contamination and I've only had 1 case where it didn't seal off the contamination.
