UV cure finish needed

My client has a restaurant with solid wood tables that need a new finish. He closes at 10pm and opens at 9am.

I need to buy a very tough finish and uv light. I have never done this before. Looking for product and advice. Where to buy, directions, advice, ect.

You don't necessarily need a UV curing finish. A 2K Polyurethane finish is incredibly durable. If you use a polyester sealer, under the 2K topcoat, you're getting arguable the most durable finish avaliable.

For a traditional 2K Poly you can get them from Mohawk, ML Campbell, Chemcraft etc..

The only one that I know of which has the polyester finish is Chemcraft.

Most businesses are closed for at least 1 full day a week. That gives you plenty of time to do a good job. I wouldn't trust the long term durability of uv cure vs 2k

Sherwin Williams has a UV line and most large manufacturers do as well. Not sure where in the country you are, Camger Coatings sells UV they can also add a UV additive to some coatings like polyester to make them UV. It is a steep learning curve, the equipment is expensive but in the long run it's worth it. Don't even try the little hand held UV lights, get a full sized production unit even if you don't have an automated finish line.
I could do a high gloss polished finish in one day with UV. Normal product like your tables one day ready to ship through the finish line.
The finish is EXTREMELY durable as well.
Even the water based UV is excellent.

I'm curious, how much per gallon on average is a UV lacquer? Also do you know what you ballpark costs per sf is using this system?

The hand held UV light was what I was looking to buy....?? 5 years ago it was $900.00. Is it just slow or is there the danger of poor results??

I have never used it, only saw a demonstration.

i used to use a handheld for curing a uv filler to fill grain on tabletops.
it was a pain to use to get consistent cure
the light itself gets very hot making it hard to handle
switched to polyester. lot easier.

UV curing can be an excellent solution to the problem your having. I've done this process both with wood and on copper and stainless steel. The end result is a reflection of the timed intervals, humidity, and altitude at which you perform the UV curing. I did the process on stainless steel not long ago.

There are some perfect applications for UV but one size doesn’t fit all. I have a hand held light and it works fine. I don’t recommend it for exterior finishes for a couple of reasons. One, it’s too brittle so it will crack at the joints. Also because of its very nature it’s not uv resistant. It needs to absorb uv in order to cure. That’s also why colors are hard to do. I did three exterior doors and after a couple years had to refinish two.
