Heater for chemical storage room2/6
I have a small room in my shop that contains my spray equipment, lacquer lacquer thinner and I want to install a heater in this room. I've been looking at explosion proof heaters but I cannot get a whole lot of information on them. Just wondering if anyone is in my situation and what type of heater do you use for chemical storage room. I need something that would work on the electric.
Shouldn't the chemicals be in there own hazardous material cabinet? How big is the room? What part of the country do you live in? I don't know of any heater that can sit in a hazardous room. You'll need something where the heat source is a safe distance from the room, and have a heat exchanger in the room.
I am not aware of any heater that would fit the explosion proof requirements, the only thing I can think of that would be nearly foolproof would be a boiler w/radiator.
There are heaters like the old Apollo stuff that used the house's water heater as a "boiler" to heat the air in the HVAC system.
Contrary to what you are hearing, there are, in fact, hazardous location heaters that are certified for class 1 div 1 and 2, group B, C, D.
(I've not seen one certified for group A, but if you have acetylene gas vapors present in a room and are trying to heat it, i think you get what you deserve)
They are not even that uncommon.
Truthfully, you shouldn't ask here. There are companies that specialize in doing exactly what you want to do, and they are going to be your best source of info.
Just google hazardous location heater and find a few, and talk with them.
(In my case, i spoke to one that specializes in heating spray booths and places where flammable gases may be continuously present, etc)
DannyB, this is the heater I'm looking at: https://indeeco.com/files/7714/7388/6553/Explosion-proof_Convector.pdf
Model number: 254-F0310052B. It is a small 500 W heater which should heat my small chemical room easily. The company name is Indeeco but since were at the end of the season I'll probably search during the summer months for other makes, models and prices. It will also come with and explosion proof thermostat end of course black iron pipe for conduit.
