I am working with a client to craft a 48 x 130 x 3 redwood slab table top. I have never finished redwood. The redwood is at 10-14 MC. The table will be used in an open environment in Southern California. It will not be outside.
Polarion comes in an exterior version which should have better properties for wood movement. Never used it myself.
I live in Redwood country and have finished a lot of it. 10-14% MC sounds too high for finishing something that big with a film forming finish...you can count on that there will be some shrinking going on.
Rubio Monocoat works great on Redwood. I do wood floors for a living and we use lots of Rubio and have used it on lots of different exotics and it works great. Another option that works well is using a universal sealer (aka dewaxed shellac) and then coating with an oil or waterbased finish of your choice.
