Finishing Torrified Wood.8/27
I have a client that has purchased an entry door (pair) made from solid torrified Mahogany. I need to put a finish on it for them. I deal with MLC finishes and was planning on using Exterior Polarion. It'll be stained with the Woodsong II stain, then their Isolante sealer then the Polarion.
Is there anything I should know about the torrified wood that might be different from a normally dried wood?
I'm not as concerned about the finishing part as I am of the staining. I know torrified wood has the cell structure of the wood damaged when it is "over dried". I don't have a test pc of wood to experiment with so it's going to be one and done.
Anything to be worried about with staining?
Can you use the top edge of the door for a sample of the stain color?
Pretty much the only area I have. Bottom is covered with a weatherstrip.
My client is getting a sample square of the finish she wants. I'm hoping it's the same material. I can use the back as my sample.
Perhaps one of the suppliers of the doors can help answer your questions.
Hope this helps.
