Extending refectory table

Has anyone out there ever made an extending refectory table which measures 5 feet wide by 8 feet long when closed extending to 16 feet when open? I am aware of the Tage Frid 'dutch pull-out' method, but can't see a way to use it in this application. All commercially available runners in Europe fall short of required length. Any ideas gratefully received.

I can't see any way to add 8 feet of leaf to an 8 foot table. I've done plenty of tables with leaves on the ends, building a pullout carriage between the aprons that supports the leaves-but its not going to work for 4 feet. If you could go from 10 feet to 16, I think that would be do able.

It can be done, we made one like this years ago. There are two leaves each side: one retracts per Frid mechanism, the other is added to it. Auxiliary leg required. Picture of table with one side opened below.

Thanks Jason and Paul for sharing your thoughts. As a result of a further meeting with my client today, the design brief has changed again. Now he wants three individual tables which will total 16 feet when put together. Doubtless this will change again before any wood is cut!
