gluing slab tables

Are dominos or floating tenons required when gluing two 2in. thick , 20in. wide ash slabs or is the surface area and titebond enough given two properly jointed edges?

Dominoes/floating tenons won't influence the strength of the joint much in your case. They will help with alignment during glue up.

my preference if the top is going to be too wide to run through the sander. As Pete said, there is no gain in strength but tight fitting dowels help so much in alignment that it greatly minimizes sanding the joint. Even biscuits have too much slop and will leave you a lot of plane or sander work.

We gave up even putting glue on biscuits when gluing up panels. I've seen enough print thru's from the glue to not do it.
The are only for alignment, they add zero strength. If anything they weaken the joint by disturbing/removing edge glueing area.

If you are gluing large slabs and then planning/sanding, this is worth the watch. I am doing mine on CNC but this looks much lower tech and easier to do.
