Laser measuring devices and software3/1
We are looking to improve our site measuring process to insure we only have to go once, AND get all of the information. Is anyone using a laser measuring device? What is best about what models? Is anyone using a drafting package on site which uses the data from the measuring device? Dan
We have used a hand held laser measuring device for about 5 years. It is made by Leica. It is a Disto 5 I think.
It works great and really improves accuracy and efficiency.
Last year we purchased a SL Laser. It works great. We use it for measuring and more importantly templates. It is crazy accurate. Do a google search for SL Laser.
I know several trim companies that use them and wouldn't consider going without them. They're much more accurate than a sagging tape measure, and one man can take measurements alone, something that use to require two men or sticks of moldings, etc.
Just Moldings, a company on the east coast, using their laser measures in conjunction with a spreadsheet program to pre-measure and pre-cut moldings for whole houses.
Plane lasers: x, y, z
I wouldn't touch any thing else!
