Any one have any advise on air dryers? I have a new cnc on the way & the manufacturer highly recommends one of these, probably will protect the warranty as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
We have an Ingersol Rand- Nirvana Dryer for our 10hp compressor. About 2200.00 new. We sized it for the compressor @ 32-35 cfm. Make sure you size yours for the cfm you are running with your compressor.
Also, we have an after cooler on the compressor and an auto drain that drains the tank every cycle. We check the air filters every week. Change the oil every 60 days. We sand and work a lot of Corian and mdf.
Hope this helps. Don't forget to check your vacuum pump inlet filter for dust accumulation, it will make it work real hard, as in not breath. And, trip the breaker, don't ask how I know this......
I installed a dryer on the inlet side of my CNC. This one was sized to run the whole shop but never got around to installing it and for the CNC it is a MUST have.
First I hate to even say that I have this name of tool in my shop but here goes. I purchased a air dryer from Harbor Freight at the reccomendation of my salesman. First day it froze up solid. I got online and purchased a A/C thermostat and wired it to the on off switch and wrapped the sensor around the outlet. After a day of adjusting it has worked just fine. Saved allot of money.
We've had a refrigerated drier for many years. Our air system: 25hp screw, (& a 10hp backup recip) air to air cooler, refrigerated drier, coalescing filter, condensate filter, pressure regulator, loupe piping system and desiccant driers on each of the CNC machines. The one thing we noticed after installing the drier was the random orbit sanders lasted much longer, probably true of all air operated equipment. Locate the drier where it isn't too hot or dusty and has plenty of free air for cooling. Our drier is a Great Lakes brand. Been running for over 15 years.
