My shop frequently applies two types of edgebanding: i) 3/4-1" wide hardwood edge to ply, ii) pre-glued wood edgebanding we apply with an iron.
The shop is not at a stage to consider a stand alone edgebander.
Right now we use a combination of a Bosch trim routers and files to get the job done. Not fast. Also, the results are not always predictable when the task is left to a less experienced employee.
I've grown tired of watching newbies peel edgebanding off only to try again or, start sweating when I see someone try to trim down a hardwood edge with flush trim bit on a Bosch Colt router.
I've looked at the online reviews for a Hoffmann lipping planer, the Festool MFK 700 EQ, as well as the Beaver AF-1 air file.
I've read the Woodweb posts where members swear by these products, but I am unclear as to whether one will do everything I need or whether I need to buy two pieces of equipment. It seems like the Festool product may be an all in one solution but I'm not sure it the bit options make it a replacement for a Hoffmann.
Can anyone give me a recommendation as to which of these tools or other tools I need to consider in order to get my two types of edgebanding tasks completed quickly and correctly?
