Laminating hpl in plywood without telegraphing

We are using UF powder resin for laminating the calibrated plywood . Yet telegraphing , minor gaps are appearing In the laminated surface. Any suggestion to overcome these defects?

Vacuum press or platen press? If vacuum then use a 1/2" sheet of melamine as a platen.

Powder resin still has moisture which will lead to the glue line to shrink when dry. Try to reduce the amount of glueto the minimum required for reliable repeatable adhesion. Quite often people think more is better with adhesives. In this case it might be contributing to the telegraphing.
Polyurethane glue might be an option that is moisture free. Messy though.

Please explain what "minor gaps" are and exactly what you are laminating to what substrate? Is this veneer? Do you have a picture?

We used to do this using UF powder resin and often had the same problem you are having. It is very difficult to avoid and most fabricators in the UK will get customers to sign a waiver stating they will accept telegraphing.
We were not happy doing this and so worked to eliminate the problem.
Firstly the quality of the plywood is critical. I think on cheap hardwood far eastern plywood you will never eliminate the problem fully. We only bond onto Baltic birch plywood now and we use a high grade.
We stopped using UF and moved onto using a decent PVA. It is cheaper, easier to use and gives as good a bond. We still had the telegraphing issue so we ended up coating the plywood with a watered down coat of PVA to raise the grain and then sanding that again when dry. This worked but obviously introduced more work.
We now use a spray contact adhesive which was reccomended to us by Formica UK. We spray it on using normal spray equipment and this has completely eliminated the issue. I think probably because the contact adhesive is effectively creating a small layer of glue which blocks the telegraphing.
It was a learning curve getting the gluing right and we did have rejects initially but now we have it down to a fine art. Getting the spray pattern right and also applying just the right amount of glue is the key.

Have you tried plywood with MDF cross bands? That has the plywood core and the smoothness of MDF.

Laminate with a polish finish stays for a long time.
