Band saw water tank refill

Lifting up the 5 gallons water tank on my LT15 is hard for me. Of course I could just fill with 1 gallon, but I suspect a heavier load helps stabilize the saw. I wish there was a top opening that I could use to refill with a gallon jug for instance but with the side opening it is difficult. How do other folks do? Thanks

Phillippe, I've got the same saw, and getting to the age,,,,,,,,,, well, level of arthritis in my shoulders that I can relate.
A gallon of water weighs ~8#, so x 5 is only about 40#, which doesn't seem like much until the lift and rotation hits the no-go range.
One suggestion, is to stand the container on it's back while up there where it rides, and pour it in from smaller containers, or fill with a hose. Then all you have to do, is roll it over.

Why not use a hose attached to a faucet? If it is too far away, how about getting a small drill powered pump to fill it from a bucket on the floor?

Keith: yes putting the tank upright is good, though by the time you do that and add a funnel, it becomes pretty tall. I don't have arthritis but rotator cuff injury and lifting high is uncomfortable. But this is a workable solution.
Jim: no garden hose for quite some distance :(. I could indeed put a small fountain or aquarium pump: good idea!

I was toying with using one of those sideway laundry detergent dispenser, they are a gallon (not to heavy) and would be plenty for a session of cutting, but I have to modify or remove the dispensing "button".

Philippe, Here is a link to a 2 1/2 gallon jug with bottom dispenser. I think it will work for you. Just add the right size hose.

I have what is called a jiggller hose. It is a siphon hose with a check ball in one end. I use mine to transfer fuel from a jug to a fuel tank. The fuel jug has to be above where you are transferring to. would work with any liquid. Just jiggle the ball up and down and the flow will start. old 243

It turned out that the tubing from the tank to the saw is too short to set the water container vertical to fill it as in Keith suggestion.
For now I just disconnect the tubing from the tank, the tank from the support, the cap from the tank, bring it down and refill with just 1 gallon. As it is freezing around here now, I just let the rest of the water drain after using the saw.
The tank has 2 openings, the large one is the lower one when in use. The other is just an air intake. So If I had a garden hose I still would have to do the same disconnects turn the tank upright, then reconnect and turn the tank sideways.
I guess the lack of a top refill port is due to the technique for molding those tanks.

According to me, you must use automatic refiller for your tank. It is bit costly, but at least you don't have to lift heavy weight with such injury.

WOODWEB's forums are a highly regarded resource for professional woodworkers. Messages and responses that are crafted in a professional and civil manner strengthen this resource. Messages that do not reflect a professional tone reduce the value of our forums.

Messages are inappropriate when their content: is deemed libelous in nature or is based on rumor, fails to meet basic standards of decorum, contains blatant advertising or inappropriate emphasis on self promotion (return to top).

Libel:   Posts which defame an individual or organization, or employ a tone which can be viewed as malicious in nature. Words, pictures, or cartoons which expose a person or organization to public hatred, shame, disgrace, or ridicule, or induce an ill opinion of a person or organization, are libelous.

Improper Decorum:   Posts which are profane, inciting, disrespectful or uncivil in tone, or maliciously worded. This also includes the venting of unsubstantiated opinions. Such messages do little to illuminate a given topic, and often have the opposite effect. Constructive criticism is acceptable (return to top).

Advertising:   The purpose of WOODWEB Forums is to provide answers, not an advertising venue. Companies participating in a Forum discussion should provide specific answers to posted questions. WOODWEB suggests that businesses include an appropriately crafted signature in order to identify their company. A well meaning post that seems to be on-topic but contains a product reference may do your business more harm than good in the Forum environment. Forum users may perceive your references to specific products as unsolicited advertising (spam) and consciously avoid your web site or services. A well-crafted signature is an appropriate way to advertise your services that will not offend potential customers. Signatures should be limited to 4-6 lines, and may contain information that identifies the type of business you're in, your URL and email address (return to top).

Repeated Forum Abuse: Forum participants who repeatedly fail to follow WOODWEB's Forum Guidelines may encounter difficulty when attempting to post messages.

There are often situations when the original message asks for opinions: "What is the best widget for my type of shop?". To a certain extent, the person posting the message is responsible for including specific questions within the message. An open ended question (like the one above) invites responses that may read as sales pitches. WOODWEB suggests that companies responding to such a question provide detailed and substantive replies rather than responses that read as a one-sided product promotion. It has been WOODWEB's experience that substantive responses are held in higher regard by our readers (return to top).
