Butfering Planer/Sander Eating Belts

Hello,

Hoping someone has experience with the Butfering SG0 211 MK with a planer head and a combination head belt. It will run fine with a couple belts that we have, but once I put a new one in, it will run off one end or the other. This happens a couple times, and then it will shred the belt. Does anyone have any input on how to solve this? I have played with the adjustment for the grain and for the oblong bolt...

Wurth belts are what we use. I have tried several, they get eaten within a few power cycled after resetting.

We have a Butfering, not that model though.

There is either an electric eye or rub switch that cycles a cylinder to tip the top drum back and forth so the paper cycles back and forth.

It sounds like it is intermittent. You can get a bad batch of belts that can cause this.

I would look for the sensor or switch and inspect it. Clean the sensor and reflector while you are in there.

It would be nice to watch the machine run and see the belt track back and forth. I would do that for sure.

You could have:
A bad sensor or a dirty sensor
A bad switch.
A sticky cylinder that move the top drum (if your air source is wet or oily that could be it.)
A bad electro pneumatic valve that cycles the cylinder
A sticky pivot.
A questionable wire
A defective belt.
A leaky air hose to the cylinder limiting the air it get.

That is all I can think of right now. Please report back when you figure it out.

Just wanted to give an update. I looks like the sensor eye had migrated to the drive side of the machine enough that it wasn't giving the oscillation enough time to catch the belt movement and send it back. I moved the eye outward away from the center of the machine, and ensured it was getting a good reflection on the galvanized section before it. It seems to be working well now.
