Help with Virutex EB25 wiring issue

I have the Virutext EB25 edgebander. It has now been inoperative for over three months because of lack of response from "customer service" at Virutex.

Mounted on the side of the feeder motor there is a junction box. There is a cable with 5 different colored wires coming into that junction box and posts in the box to attach the wires to. The wiring schematics on the EB25 do not clarify which colored wires go to which posts. I've attached a picture of the wires and the junction posts.

Are there any EB25 owners out there that might be able to help me get this wired together so I can start using it again. Virutex won't or doesn't seem to want to be any help on this issue. I have been getting some limited help from one gentleman but it seems he's been getting stonewalled in his own organization.

THANK YOU in advance.

Or, would anyone know where I can go to get help with this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don:

If the link works, the bottom 2 pages show the wiring diagram. Otherwise, the link is http://virutex.com/EB25-All-New.pdf

Many times I have had to circumvent lazy customer service to acces the information I needed, which was one click away for a knowledgable service rep. Rikon has been the best I have encountered sofar; when I needed parts for my bandsaw they were more than helpful, and the rep knows his oats.

Sad that he is the exception and not the rule. Good luck.

Thank you Tony.

I've got that diagram but it's very unclear about which wire goes to which post in the junction box. Plus the wire colors in the schematic don't match the wire colors on my machine. That makes it really tough to figure out what goes where. I'm working with a guy that is really trying to help me. But his boss is completely unhelpful in getting the information needed and the guy I'm working with has no other phone numbers to call in the company for tech support. It's so frustrating.... :(

I guess what I would be really helpful is if someone that has an EB25 to take a picture of that junction box on their machine and tell me which wires go to which posts. That would be a thousand times better then tech support from virutex.

Don:

If I had to guess, the yellow/green goes to the grounding screw. The position of the block on the schematic is your photo turned 90 degrees clockwise. The brown and blue are shown in their proper position, and you would need to determine whether the black or the gray is the wire from the microswitch.

But of course, you don't want to do this based on my guess. You might try an inventory search of some used machinery dealers, see if any have this machine on the floor, and see who would be willing to photograph the wired junction box for you.

Good luck.

If you are unable to do so yourself do you not have a local electrician who could trace out the leads for you? Micro switch and motor control doesnt look to involved to diagnose with a multimeter and a sheet of paper.

Green/yellow wires are always ground or earth as they translate them in some European manuals.

Matt, YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER!!! Thank you so much. I can now get my door stop of 3 months operating again.

John, thank you for your feedback on the ground situation.

Thank you all who have helped with this.

I hope to have my machine running today. Woohoo!! :)

Merry Christmas to all!!

Don't think I'm going to have positive feedback for virutex. I will tell them I will be leaving feedback on several sites that summarizes their lack of customer service and recommend people not purchase their products. It's to bad too, because when the machine worked it was a good machine. All I needed to do was replace the front cutting knife return spring and it took more then three months for this to happen. :(

Matt,

I hate to bug you again. I'm having a difficult time determining which post the black wire goes to and the grey wire goes to. The other wires are good.

Could you please help clarify where those to wires go? If you could maybe just let me know which post they go on. For reference, you can say the post with NO wires on it is #1. And go clockwise around the terminal block so the lower right one is #6. No picture needed. Thank you sir!!

Well, we have alittle problem. I don’t have a grey wire on my machine, but I think that’s ok. Now I’m not an electrician so, maybe someone with more knowledge than I could help with this. I have two black wires coming out of the 5 wire cord. One is connected to 2, the other is connected to 3. I assume on of those black wires in mine is your grey wire. If you look at my picture I sent, there is a separate black wire connecting 2 and 3, so I assume it would not matter which wire goes where. Again, I might ask someone with more knowledge than I. Hope this helps, and when your up and running I have a few operational questions for you. Happy New Year.

Matt,

I've sent another email, followed up with a voicemail, (not sure if it's a futile attempt or not) to virutext along with my machine nameplate and serial number explaining to them the wiring differences between your machine and mine and asking if they can clarify. I might hear from them, I might not. I'll just have to continue waiting and waiting.... The absolute worst customer service I've ever had the misfortune to have to deal with. So frustrating.

I bought a new Virutex PEB50 in fall and it is still not running, seems to be a control panel issue. Anyone know anything about this? Virutex is no help at all!

Mark

  • WOODWEB is a professional industrial woodworking site. Hobbyist and homeowner woodworking questions are inappropriate.
  • Messages should be kept reasonably short and on topic, relating to the focus of the forum. Responses should relate to the original question.
  • A valid email return address must be included with each message.
  • Advertising is inappropriate. The only exceptions are the Classified Ads Exchange, Machinery Exchange, Lumber Exchange, and Job Opportunities and Services Exchange. When posting listings in these areas, review the posting instructions carefully.
  • Subject lines may be edited for length and clarity.
  • "Cross posting" is not permitted. Choose the best forum for your question, and post your question at one forum only.
  • Messages requesting private responses will be removed - Forums are designed to provide information and assistance for all of our visitors. Private response requests are appropriate at WOODWEB's Exchanges and Job Opportunities and Services.

  • Posts with the intent of soliciting answers to surveys are not appropriate. Contact WOODWEB for more information on initiating a survey.
  • Excessive forum participation by an individual upsets the balance of a healthy forum atmosphere. Individuals who excessively post responses containing marginal content will be considered repeat forum abusers.
  • Responses that initiate or support inappropriate and off-topic discussion of general politics detract from the professional woodworking focus of WOODWEB, and will be removed.

WOODWEB's forums are a highly regarded resource for professional woodworkers. Messages and responses that are crafted in a professional and civil manner strengthen this resource. Messages that do not reflect a professional tone reduce the value of our forums.

Messages are inappropriate when their content: is deemed libelous in nature or is based on rumor, fails to meet basic standards of decorum, contains blatant advertising or inappropriate emphasis on self promotion (return to top).

Libel:   Posts which defame an individual or organization, or employ a tone which can be viewed as malicious in nature. Words, pictures, or cartoons which expose a person or organization to public hatred, shame, disgrace, or ridicule, or induce an ill opinion of a person or organization, are libelous.

Improper Decorum:   Posts which are profane, inciting, disrespectful or uncivil in tone, or maliciously worded. This also includes the venting of unsubstantiated opinions. Such messages do little to illuminate a given topic, and often have the opposite effect. Constructive criticism is acceptable (return to top).

Advertising:   The purpose of WOODWEB Forums is to provide answers, not an advertising venue. Companies participating in a Forum discussion should provide specific answers to posted questions. WOODWEB suggests that businesses include an appropriately crafted signature in order to identify their company. A well meaning post that seems to be on-topic but contains a product reference may do your business more harm than good in the Forum environment. Forum users may perceive your references to specific products as unsolicited advertising (spam) and consciously avoid your web site or services. A well-crafted signature is an appropriate way to advertise your services that will not offend potential customers. Signatures should be limited to 4-6 lines, and may contain information that identifies the type of business you're in, your URL and email address (return to top).

Repeated Forum Abuse: Forum participants who repeatedly fail to follow WOODWEB's Forum Guidelines may encounter difficulty when attempting to post messages.

There are often situations when the original message asks for opinions: "What is the best widget for my type of shop?". To a certain extent, the person posting the message is responsible for including specific questions within the message. An open ended question (like the one above) invites responses that may read as sales pitches. WOODWEB suggests that companies responding to such a question provide detailed and substantive replies rather than responses that read as a one-sided product promotion. It has been WOODWEB's experience that substantive responses are held in higher regard by our readers (return to top).
